Republicans; how do you make peace with the volume of lies?

Anonymous
As an independent who has voted both dem and republican (but never for trump) and a former journalist, I don’t understand the republican base ability to tolerate the level of untruths from the trump campaign.
In my years as a journalist I worked for ABC/ CBS/ CNN/ AP and Reuters. I’ve fact checked both sides but nothing I ever saw in the years before trump compared to his ability to flat out lie and that has only gotten worse in recent months. To me this makes him completely unfit to govern and I’m confused why others don’t feel the sam. What makes this excusable in folks minds I am intrigued?

You're not confused and you're not intrigued. Spare me

It's just wild to me.
Multiple times in my feed last week with some of the horrid AI photos related to Hurricane Helene I had relatives admit the picture was AI, but "that doesn't matter, you still get the point!" Huh? If the pictures is a lie, then doesn't it stand to reason the words are a lie too? How is that OK?

OP they love the lies, because they think it will get them the results they want. See this response above. That’s how they make peace with it. They’ve decided lies are okay to get what you want. It’s shameless and unprincipled, but that’s where we are.

I was listening to the blurb for a movie, where a character (who was asked to take the oath in court that he would only speak the truth, but declines) says "I do not speak the truth. What I speak becomes the truth". So it seems, with Trump.

DP. I am. I think there are some that really believe all the lies (e.g., the lady that believes the government was cloud-seeding Hurricane Milton to increase its intensity), and there are others that somehow justify it all. It's not normal or okay.

And this, in a nutshell, is why our republic will whither and die.

You’re not a very good “journalist” if you’ve ever voted republican.

The Truth has an intensely strong progressive bias to it. You’ve admittedly voted republican, so that basically tells us everything we need to know about how awful a journalist you were.

I will never, ever vote for Trump but if the past six years or so has taught me anything, it’s that the Democrats lie as profusely and freely as the Republicans, and that the media (both mainstream and left/right) is utterly untrustworthy.

My aunt doesn't agree with the lies but says it doesn't matter because she is against immigration

That’s not even slightly true.

Too bad for your Aunt that Trump won't deliver on that either.
