The beige thing goes way back to her influence by Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, who died in a plane crash with JFk Jr in 1998. Bessette Kennedy was known for wearing Calvin Klein inspired outfits in beige and black Her style was very influential . There are photos of Meghan doing exact copies of the outfits.

Sure, but "sad beige" is also a trend, or has been throughout the 2010s before Gen Zs started clowning on it. https://www.today.com/parents/family/sad-beige-rcna65116

It has been a hallmark of elder millennial style, the pared down, all white/brown/beige monochromatic thing, matching the similar all white/brown/beige kitchen. And what once seemed kind of chic, new and fresh, now looks incredibly dated and like a throwback to the mid 2010s, which was Meghan's heyday. Anyone who stays on top of trends knows that this kind of thing looks very out of date now and Gen Zs are always making fun of these stylistic choices. And for good reason- once you kind of pan out you realize how kind of ridiculous and overly stylized/ self conscious it often looks.

I don't personally think her style is dated. It reads more quiet luxury than sad beige.

With that being said, as a fellow millennial, I can appreciate Meghan sticking to her style rather than changing. As you get older you kind of learn what works for you and gain confidence to avoid overhauling your style every time trends change. She's in ankle jeans and a button down, it's not like she's in a J. Crew bubble necklace or something extremely dated.

I also do think this is one of those areas where she would never win and if she tried something excessively trendy she'd be made fun of for trying too hard.

It is very dated though, and you being a millennial may blind you to that fact since it's a style you still enjoy. In the way that plenty of boomers will still walk around thinking their outfits from the 80s or 90s are really cool, when it dates them and gives away their "era".

Nothing wrong with having a personal style. But you can still update things, keep them fresh, and move with the times- or hire people to style you if you cant figure it out yourself. ESPECIALLY if youre going to position yourself as some kind of leader in the aspirational lifestyle industry. Most people dont want to be walking around wearing a style that is a good decade or so passe.

Please give detailed examples of how to “update” and “freshen” the aesthetic of the show. I would love to hear what is considered updated.

The show to me reads as blandly pleasant. It’s the entire curated concept of a lifestyle show that seems dated more so than the details like clothing.

I think she'd really have to change the entire vibe- the "perfect instagram" look is now extremely out of date and cringe, which is why most GenZs prefer a somewhat chaotic looking photo dump. More color would be great, not filming in all white, beige kitchens. Not doing cutesy "twee" crafts like sticking stuff in mason jars or wicker baskets. If she was to experiment with more color, more boldness, more "out there" vibes then that would fit the zeitgeist a lot more. ATM, it's giving Chip and Joanna Gaines Modern Farmhouse 2016.

Agree to disagree. She is for sure a millennial aesthetically but I don't think it's that bad.

I mean, I'm sorry, but it is. You cannot tell me Meghan's show is aesthetically distinct from this:

Seriously. I don't understand how straight cut jeans and a button down are "dated." She just dresses like a normal rich mom, which she is. It's millennial because millennials are moms now.

LOL. That's because you are a millennial! Dont you get that? In the same way a boomer isnt going to understand how their look is dated either. There are plenty of hip looking rich moms, not everyone is wearing what was en vogue in 2015.

Yes, I do get that for some people's style but Meghan's doesn't particularly read dated to me. Some other millennials' style does. I agree with the other poster, please give detailed examples of how to update and freshen the aesthetic of the show.

Yeah but that's what I'm trying to explain! You're a self admitted millennial and cant see the forest for the trees, lol. I did give some examples to the other poster but tbh it's not really my job to explain to middle-aged moms who think white skinny jeans and a chambray button down is totally chic about current fashion trends, lmao. You can always look up Vogue articles, use ChatGTP, or even open a dedicated thread here on DCUM if you truly want advice on updating your wardrobe (although this board skews Gen X so you might not get much help). Good luck!

Lol.

Um, okay. Calm down, Gladys. I think they were just agreeing with the other poster. No one was suggesting it was your "job."

Ma'am, you're dating yourself by even using that name. Perhaps we should use a very dated millennial or Xer name for you like "Jessica". You sound very old.

I do, it's a subtle distinction but I don't think you'd understand so I don't feel like explaining.

Good luck!

It's not that serious.

But it is the truth, no matter how mad that makes you.

It doesn't. I'm just saying, telling someone they can't see the forest for the trees because they like chambray shirts is a bit weird.

But you can't, in that context... what are you not getting? What do you think that phrase means?

Are you the same person who was calling people fat and poor three pages ago?

People stopped responding to their "you're fat and poor" posts so they had to tone it down and are about to lose it again lol.

It's really not. A lot of millennial women are triggered by this discussion because for years they were on the leading edge of what was cool and trendy and they cant fathom the fact that what once set them apart as hip in the outside world now looks cringe and dated. Like it or not, Joanna Gaines of "shiplap" infamy has the same exact aeshetic as MM and millions of other millennial moms.
