Hoax: Hate crime attackers: "This is MAGA country."

Well that is WAPO's slogan but I assume because there is no additional news on the story today. It is quite literally, yesterday's news. But Jussie Smollett is still on the top bar on wapo.com as 'in the news'

On the contrary, since WaPo went to press early yesterday morning, there IS news... however embarrassing it may be to you foolish Libs.

And, to think that he concocted this scheme in order to make more money. I guess his plan backfired just a tad.

Don't forget - Jussie Smollett is more "privileged" than the vast majority of gay men or AA men. Yet, his goal was to claim victimhood in order to get sympathy and attention from those in our country who find a MAGA hat as offensive. He might have pulled off such a hoax had he been a lot more careful in his planning and had he not severely underestimated the ability of CPD to investigate crime. Perhaps he thought it would be dismissed as a ploy of a gay, black man who has been so traumatized throughout his life. If so, he was oh, so wrong.

And, to the poster who said, "What Smollett did didn't affect anyone other than himself and waste a few hours of detective time..."
Honey, you are clueless. Or a troll. There were at least 12 detectives assigned to this case. Some reports are as many as 24. That's not small potatoes in terms of man-hours. And, in a city where crime is out of control, this is not something to sneeze at. Add to that the fact that a hazmat truck had to report to the Empire studio - not a cheap expense. And, I saw a report where some of the Empire staff had to have security because of the letter.
And, his little poorly executed hoax did embolden many on the left to connect his attack to President Trump AND VP Pence and publicly condemn not only them, but his supporters. I would say there are several million people who were affected by his little stunt.

Exactly.

However, NOTHING from Trump on the RWNJ arrested in Silver Spring, Maryland wanting to kill members of congress and the media.

Oh and nothing about crazy pants Roger Stone.

Save your outrage, MAGAS and please crawl back under your rocks. Bunch of hypocrites.Hope you are shaking in your collective boots. And please, for the love of God, dispose of your rifles.

Thanks so much.

Who apologized? I saw a bunch of tweets disappear . . . and lots of crickets . . .

We can go around and around and around, but you have your perspective (clearly liberal), and I have mine, which is moderate.

Your outrage is hysterical, by the way, as you continue to perpetuate stereotypes with hostile language.

The disappearing tweets are funny. I suspect most of those people have never read 1984 and understand the idea of a memory hole and why that might be more offensive than actually apologizing/correcting.

true

Lots of tweets can't survive 451 degrees . . .

What? Websites don't go to press.

Trevor Noah did a funny piece on this, pointing out all of the flaws. As I was listening to it, I kept trying to wrap my head around WHY he would do such a thing. It's not about the money, people. It goes money deeper than that.

With the holes in his plan, I honestly think that on a subconscious level, he was trying to sabotage himself. Or . . . maybe he really IS that stupid!

Rahm Emanuel's message is on target re Mr. Smollett's actions, although I was especially affected by the sincere statements shared by the Chicago Police Superintendent, which I and others posted yesterday.

Why did he do it? Hate. He hates Trump and anything associated with him so much that he committed a series of crimes to make him, and his supporters, look bad.
It is evident from the letter he sent himself. It is evident from the hoax attack he planned. It is evident from his histrionic interview with Robin Roberts.
It was all about hate. And, he knew millions of Americans would believe him and agree with him, and ultimately support him because they are filled with hate as well.

I meant much deeper, not money deeper. lol

Everyone is saying hate. Of course he hates Trump and anyone who supports him. Many people do. He's not special in that area. However, why would you choose a noose as your "weapon," knowing that the numerous lynchings in the past successfully murdered innocent blacks? Where's the respect for people who suffered?

I am still 90% sure that it's self-loathing - some f-ed up psychological issue. (10% that he's stupid . . . ) I'm glad he'll be written off the show. I'm glad he's not some false role model living a lie.

But the plan was out of this world CRAZY, which makes me think he's sick in the head.

Why a noose? He didn't plan to get caught. He knows a noose would totally outrage Trump-haters BECAUSE of the atrocities this symbol represents. He has no respect for people who suffered. Remember that he considers himself a victim.

So he's a sociopath. He has the traits: superficial/charming, manipulative, pathological liar, egotistical, maybe a lack of remorse (don't really know)

If this is the case, then he's a sicko.

My prediction is that he checks into a rehab center within the week. This will feed into his defense (even though he is still claiming innocence).

If Smollett hoaxed this then what Smollett did was clearly wrong. I won't dispute that whatsoever.

But what you are missing is that this tapped into a whole lot of pre-existing anger with Trump. And what you are missing is WHY millions of Americans are so angry with Trump, and that all of this pre-existing anger is very legitimate.

If you think people hate Trump for no good reason, you are completely clueless and tone-deaf.

And, what you don't get is that he KNEW this would be the reaction. He knew he wouldn't be questioned by the media or the Trump-haters because of the hate that has been so evident for the past two years.
Look - there was a lot I didn't like about Obama, or Clinton. But, I would never say I "hate" either of them. Obama, particularly, took actions which angered me and many Republicans. In fact, he did very little that I approved of. But, again, "hate" was not an emotion I would convey to any Democratic president.
I say that your feelings of hate ARE for no good reason. Disagree with him on policy - fine. Disagree with some of his rhetoric - fine. But, the hate is really over the top. Truly.
