I was thinking that too. Ski mask and gloves in this weather is pretty standard, even necessary. It still seems odd though. |

the noose= hate crime.
Did they yell that it is MAGA country? We will have to wait for him to release a statement. |
Not that far. |
| If he had bleach poured on him, he would be reeking of bleach and his clothing would be damaged and that would be reflected in the medical records and police report. A forced noose would also leave marks. |
Far? Bridgeport is a neighborhood in SW Chicago. Home of the Daley's. |

This is OP - and ok, you might be right that we should exercise some skepticism.
I suppose the things we know are: 1. Something happened to this guy; and 2. I (and others) do find it plausible that it would be MAGA-related but that doesn't mean it happened the way he says it did. You're right. |
LOL. Yes - we know something happened to him. We know that it involved two perps wearing ski masks and reportedly carrying a rope and bleach. Beyond that - it is all speculation. |

So TMZ is fake news. |

You are splitting hairs. https://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/tv/ct-ent-empire-actor-attacked-20190129-story.html
How would they know the political views of the attackers when they haven't arrested the attackers? They reported what was said: from chicago tribune: Police say two people approached Smollett at about 2 a.m. Tuesday as he was walking in the 300 block of East North Lower Water Street and got his attention by yelling racial and homophobic slurs. Smollett was hit and an unknown chemical substance was poured on him, according to police. A rope was wrapped around Smollett’s neck before the attackers fled the scene, police said. Smollett took himself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and is said to be in “good condition.” |

This sounds awful. However, it's incredibly convenient to pretend they said "this is MAGA country". Even the police said there was no record of that.
I'm incredibly tired of people trotting out "MAGA" or some variation of it whenever they're looking for someone to blame. Yes, I'm looking at you, DCUM. |
Maybe, since the whole "this is MAGA country" wasn't actually said, you should revise the title of your thread? And perhaps wait until ALL FACTS are released before jumping to your usual conclusions? |
MAGA= supporting white nationalism |
Were you there? How do you know it wasn't said. The police just wrote that racist and homophobic things were said. Did the police say that "this is MAGA country" WASN'T said? |
Page 1 of thread: The Chicago Police Department said 36-year-old Empire star Jussie Smollett told authorities he was assaulted early Tuesday morning by two suspects who yelled out “racial and homophobic slurs” before the attack. Smollett told police that the suspects hit him in the face around 2 a.m. and “poured an unknown chemical substance” on him, according to the statement. “At some point during the incident, one of the offenders wrapped a rope around the victim’s neck,” the police statement says. “The offenders fled the scene.” Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and is in “good condition,” authorities said. Police say they are investigating the “possible racially-charged assault and battery” as a possible hate crime. Smollett has yet to comment on the alleged attack. A Chicago Police spokesperson told The Daily Beast that the attackers’ genders are unknown, and that their faces and hands had been covered. TMZ reported that the attackers shouted “This is MAGA country,” but police told the Beast, “There is no report of that being said.” https://www.thedailybeast.com/empire-star-jussie-s...ed-after-homophobic-attack-tmz |
