Hoax: Hate crime attackers: "This is MAGA country."

TMZ reports "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked by two men in a Subway restaurant.

Sources close to the actor told TMZ the attackers put his head in a noose and screamed "This is MAGA country."

It happened around 2 a.m. Monday. As the actor walked out of the restaurant, someone allegedly yelled, "Aren't you that f****t Empire n*****?"

The men were reportedly wearing ski masks, and attacked Smollett, breaking a rib and pouring bleach on him. The actor was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Chicago Police Department is reportedly investigating the incident as battery, and treating it as a possible hate crime.

This is absolutely horrible - and is exactly why so many of us have the feelings we do about Trump supporters.

Yes, wait for the attackers who broke his ribs and poured bleach over him to be invited to the white house.

Or, as we have seen repeatedly.... wait for the attackers to be identified as a member of the group that they were presumably showing "hate" against.
You might find this hard to believe, but I doubt seriously somebody would say, "this is MAGA country." Especially in Chicago. Unless, of course, they wanted to throw off investigators.

Ski masks defense don’t show much. It’s uber convenient that 2 MAGA beasts wearing ski masks attack this guy. How does he know they were white?

The Chicago Police Department said 36-year-old Empire star Jussie Smollett told authorities he was assaulted early Tuesday morning by two suspects who yelled out “racial and homophobic slurs” before the attack. Smollett told police that the suspects hit him in the face around 2 a.m. and “poured an unknown chemical substance” on him, according to the statement. “At some point during the incident, one of the offenders wrapped a rope around the victim’s neck,” the police statement says. “The offenders fled the scene.” Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and is in “good condition,” authorities said. Police say they are investigating the “possible racially-charged assault and battery” as a possible hate crime. Smollett has yet to comment on the alleged attack.

A Chicago Police spokesperson told The Daily Beast that the attackers’ genders are unknown, and that their faces and hands had been covered. TMZ reported that the attackers shouted “This is MAGA country,” but police told the Beast, “There is no report of that being said.”

Remember when Harold Washington who became the first black mayor, ran against Eddie Vrdolyak. IIRC Vrdolyak's campaign gave out buttons that had no words on them. They were just solid white.

Even I think this deserves waiting for more information. It is pretty convenient that this guy went out for an unplanned meal and just happen to run into two guys with ski masks and bleach who knew who he was and wanted to beat him up. On the other hand, given current temperatures in Chicago, a ski mask might be pretty normal.

Agreed. But, the bleach and a rope for a noose - not normal.
