Hayfield Football Coach Fired

This is so much bigger than one courageous whistleblower. Even without her, the story would have been everywhere. Everyone
else is not as stupid as Overton and his people seem to believe.

It seems like PWC families were willing to overlook his sideshow.

Yep

15 students on the 2023 roster are either not playing or transfered...because all the spots on Hayfield's team were given to outsiders.

Assume that is why FCPS appealing again to try to save face.

Yes. Reid said they are appealing. FCPS believes they are in the right, and that the VHSL got it wrong.

Where did Reid say they are appealing? Is there a link to that somewhere?

From the Fairfax Times article:

“It’s understood that Fairfax County Public Schools plans to now appeal the ban to the 37-member executive committee of the VHSL, based in Richmond. Playoffs are scheduled to begin the weekend of Nov. 15. The first-round regional pairings are scheduled to be released this Sunday.”

They should. It’s a lot of speculation and some bs. Let the boys play!

They lost the appeal. They do not get a second one. Read the article that was a quote from when they were first notified of the ban. The investigation is complete. This is no longer speculation and BS. What's BS is the crap Overton and everyone who followed him pulled. Those boys can play at the schools they should have been going to the whole damn time.

Wish they were done. VHSL made decision (letter from Billy Exec Dir). Hayfield did a first appeal to Sportsmanship Committee. They lost (today’s news story). Hayfield is now reported to be continuing to fight by appealing to the entire VHSL Board.

There is NO WAY the entire Board will overturn the decision. Not with the overwhelming amount of evidence VHSL amassed, the two previous rulings against Hayfield and the enormous amount of public interest in fairness related to this case. They won't call into question their own org's judgment.

Fully agree and reason would love FCPS to explain the $ and time they are spending on this. Only reason I can think of is people telling Reid she will look better for having backed Hayfield.

Query what the standard of review is in the VHSL by laws for issues on appeal from the Sportsmanship to the entire VHSL board. Arbitrary or capricious? Clear and convincing evidence of an erroneous decision? Sounds unlikely Hayfield can prevail

Did you read the letter the Fairfax Times claims is from VHSL. It's pretty scathing and if real seems hard to overcome.

Yes the article is damning. I don’t know VHSl’s rules. If the Board is required to give any kind of deference to initial findings and the sportsmanship committee, the school is toast

Letter from VHSL

Knew them rednex down there were going to uphold.
It’s going to be Oscar Smith now.

Idk. Battlefield is strong and could be the last team standing. I actually think Battlefield had a better chance of winning it all than Hayfield.

As a fan, I was looking forward to seeing Hayfield, Battlefield, and Madison clash with the best Richmond, and Tidewater teams. It’s a shame that the haters had to get involved.

A lot of non Hayfield people were looking forward to those matchups. I do believe it all would've remained under the radar if the team moms hadn’t stated fighting. If the one team mom had given up her position quietly and accepted the new team culture, we would be none the wiser.

But now her kid gets playing time in the postseason for SoCo. So I guess she’s having the last laugh as they say.

On the note of team moms, what happened to the tens of thousands of dollars collected by the new team mom, using an outside money platform outside the organized booster structure sanctioned by FCPS?

She is going to receive a 1099 for that money and have to pay taxes on it.

This story did just disappear! I'm curious too.

The other story that came up in summer but then died was that reporters could not find financials for coach’s non-profit training company. All other non-profits you can pull prior year records from IRS site. Nothing comes up for their non-profit, but is called a non-profit. Reporters said they tried to find but couldn’t.

I saw someone mention Mickey Thompson in the comments. He just retired this year.

Mickey Thompson players came to Stonebridge just to play football for years. There were none of these hit pieces done by the journalists in the local papers. There was never any sanctions placed on him.

Why Hayfield now? Overton and the team parents were too Black and too flamboyant.

They should have known that the necks governing the VHSL couldn’t wait to stop those uppity n*****s down at Hayfield. That was a given.

Overton should’ve brought in a white guy as head coach and just run the program through him. He would’ve never had any problem. It’s not easy navigating through white supremacy when you’re Black. He should’ve been more tactical.

Nah cuz he on team but don’t play, lol
But question is if this team mom left Hayfield and the son now attends SOCO n this WHOLE thing is about football, what’s happening with that, because it’s obvious she moved her kid for. Same reason there coming after Overton for, or is this being overshadowed

Everyone wants to keep blaming this one mom. There were MULTIPLE people who came forward. Even had a letter from FCPS coaches about this mess. It’s about time he faces some consequences. He should be fired and so should everyone who allowed this crap to happen. That superintendent is a joke and made the county the laughing stock of Va. For everyone say buy the kids…those 20 something knew what they were doing and knew it was wrong.

That poster has a point. That kid went transferred to south county for the sole reason of playing football. They need some type of discipline as well.

Stop acting stupid. The kid was being bullied by you Overton minions. You know it. It was not a transfer just for football. The fact that you are obsessed with one mom who spoke up speaks volumes about you. Get therapy. [/

Go figure, bullied because mommy said so, Karen didn’t get to be team mom and little Johnny now won’t be given a spot because he is not good enough, let me go tell and say these things happened n play victim.

No, grow up and welcome to this thing called real life where things are not given but earned. I swear some folks are pencil pocket pushers

"Real life where things are not given but earned." You and Overton haven't earned anything. You've cheated, lied and broken rules to get where you are. You're immature adults trying to live out a fantasy wrapped around a kid's sport which you ruin. There are rules and you break them right and left then brag about how awesome you are. Tell us Mr. Knows Nothing About Real Life, where is the money crazy room mom collected? Did Overton take money from any of the current players through his private company? Why hasn't he filed the proper paperwork related to that company?

You think you are so special that you are allowed to break the rules. It's disgusting that school admins allowed you to think this was ok. People will be losing their jobs. This is not a small issue that will just go away.

Also to whatever admin allowed this situation that prevented students other than football players from being celebrated on Senior Night should be fired. Who the h made football the be all end all of high school?

Real life tells you that you get taken down when you break the rules. Overton and some FCPS admins getting fired is real life.

Comedy gold here. You really should consider standup.

I love the "yeah we broke the rules bigger than anyone else broke the rules but I'm going to tell you with no proof that everyone else broke the rules."

There is nothing more pathetic than crying about racism when you get caught cheating.

Note you never say "we didn't do it", just that "everyone else is cheating too!"

The parents could all say Hayfield has better academics than Freedom. Combined with the better football program is the reason they moved into the Hayfield zone.

I’m quite sure they weren’t asked if the football team was the sole reason they moved and to just assume that because of what some parents said during a conversation about the football team isn’t fair.

You have no idea what proof/evidence the VHSL collected as that hasn't been made public.
