Do you think most men who travel a lot cheat?

Anonymous
Given the opportunity?

We know a few men who travel unnecessarily often. There are consultants who travel for work and that is their actual job. Then there are other men who don’t have to travel for their actual job but find conferences or meetings to attend where they don’t necessarily have to attend.

I know my single BIL goes to a lot of these as an excuse to hang out, meet people and network. But for a man with a wife and multiple young kids?

On average, yes. Cheating is relatively common and I imagine that the more opportunities an aspiring cheater has to cheat, the more they will cheat.

But I wouldn’t presume to know what’s going on with your BIL or any one man. For one, it’s nosey. Second, he could just not like being at home, he might think these things are very important for his job, and he might just like the conferences.

Yes. My brother travels constantly (sales) and was caught cheating. Not saying everyone cheats but I do believe certain personalities prefer to be on the road and many seek out this lifestyle.

No.

Given the opportunity means trash. Trashy stranger at the bar or drunk trashy industry peer at the conference.

Trash begets trash so you have bigger issues than travel.

Yeah but someone can be trash without cheating because they haven’t been able to cheat. Once I heard a story about a woman who found her husbands tinder account. He was trying to cheat on her but looking though the messages, she saw he was unsuccessful in getting someone to hook up with him. Almost worse than actually cheating!

Yes.

In my younger years, I used to attend as many work conferences and trips as possible. I enjoyed it for the social interactions - going out to dinner, hanging out in bars with my coworkers from around the country who I worked with often but did not get to see in person very often. I also took any opportunity to take trips for free to places I'd never been before. I never would consider cheating. Just wanted to point out that there are reasons to enjoy travelling even in the happiest of marriages.

Yes, but married women cheat at an equal (possibly greater) percentage as married men.

Women are smarter about their extra-marital affairs than men. Work-travel is the ultimate scenario for undetected cheating.

So it’s logical women will choose the best, least-risky scenario for their infidelity.

Women who travel for work certainly cheat at shockingly high rates.

Yes. But also men who are out of the house doing “hobbies” or “working late.”

IME, yes. I (a woman) traveled for work when I was younger and single. The number of married men trying to get me up to their hotel rooms was staggering. I was fit and pretty, but not beautiful. I think these guys figure they’re unlikely to get caught, so why not.

I’m a guy who travels regulary for work. I’m a tall, reasonably fit guy who doesn’t any issue steiking up conversations with anyone. I’ve never cheated.

I doubt more than 20% does.

It has been my experience that people who go to conferences are either there to be serious, in which case they don't cheat because they're there to network, or else they're there to party, which means the same stuff it usually means. It's just a lot easier for there to be no longterm consequences if it's a one-time thing at a conference that happens once a year than someone you work with.

Basically, I think most people who cheat do so because there is an opportunity. Some people go pretty far out of their way to create opportunities, in and out of town. Your BIL might actually just be going to conferences to meet people and network. That doesn't mean he's cheating. He is allowed to have interests, hobbies, and a family.

Definitely- I remember reading a statistic that most cheating happens on work travel or with colleagues. The people I know who travel a lot for work say they see a ton of cheating among colleagues who equally travel.
