The White Lotus season 2

When Daphne said she has no female friends bc they gossip behind her back - I assumed it was about Cameron's cheating, but maybe it's also that they figured out that her kids are the trainer's.

Just a random thought I had since I keep thinking about the show. Haha

I remember her saying she doesn’t have female friends, but I don’t remember her saying they gossip about her.

Then, the next day when the hour are together she talks about one of her great female friends.

First Harper, a golden bird attacking another. Is money attacking her or is she attacking another bird (Daphne?)

Daphne, the mother. But also the shows creator says they are cherubs, known for being mischievous and playing games

Cameron, without his masculine parts, being humiliated by a dog. Showing that despite his bravado he is one of the least powerful characters on the show

Tanya, keeping a monkey shackled for entertainment and high in a window (linked to the woman on the island who falls to her death in the story Tom Holland tells)

Greg - a man and a woman on a pack mule with the pack mule staring at the camera

I'm having trouble finding the rest and I can't screenshot and post them so:

Nonno - An old man courting a young beautiful woman

Albie - A young man playing an instrument for a beautiful woman lying on the ground at his feet. A dog, not dissimilar to the dog in the Cameron fresco is gently jumping up on her

Mia - The Asian Sphinx, who will kill travelers who can't decipher her riddle, looking down from above. Strong and s*xual

Quentin - Four men, two looking longingly at one looking at the camera and another looking longingly at one of those men. The man looking at the camera is seated almost on a throne. A woman is facing away from them, walking in another direction

Valentina - Close up of that woman walking in another direction who is now looking at two women entangled in a bed

Dom - A man fallen to his knees in supplication before a beautiful woman who is holding a necklace out over a cliff

Portia - A girl with her head twisted almost unnaturally towards the sky, on the ground, seemingly doing some chore while a goat stares at her

Ethan - A beautiful woman holding up a hand to either take something or to push someone back and a man in front of her holding a bowl overflowing with goods. His head is downward and unreadable, staring at his goods and seemingly oblivious to the woman

Lucia - A leopard or some big cat holding its fish walking languidly

Essex Boy - One man sitting leaning against a column while another stands above him, seemingly bringing his pelvis towards the sitting man's face. Great intimacy implied between them

The Aubrey plaza fresco is a bird attacking/clipping the wings of another bird. Keeping Ethan in check?

That’s what I thought last week.

*four are together

And Ethan and Harper made eyes because Harper told him how she said she had no friends

Or has Ethan clipped her wings?

Maybe the two of them turning on each other

I don't see the other bird as Ethan or anyone. I see the golden bird (Harper) attacking as a representation of Harper's personality. She's not warm and fuzzy and she's blunt/likes to pick things apart.

Nonnitos do not succumb this easily.

Maybe The Godfather references refer to Nonno, who’ll be the one to kill Lucia thinking he’s protecting his family, when Dom and Albie seem the more obvious choices to snap.

Interesting. It could tie into the girls’ having access to his room, which has come up twice now. And it seems like an unnecessary detail to include if it will NOT mean anything in the long run. But then again, I feel the same way about his injuries — strange thing to include unless it ends up becoming significant to the story.

Can’t wait until they get the $500,000 shopping and food bill from the hookers.

Plus the hookers keep talking about how god will punish them or shall they escape punishment?

She said she didn't have female friends because they always want something from her and then they talk about her behind her back. I don't remember the exact wording

There have been big orange slices in the aperol spritzes, which I figured as a head nod.

I would love to know how all these set and costume details come about. Like do the writers share the script and then the set/costume people figure out these details or something else? Like when Harper’s outfits change with her demeanor or how Albie wore his socks when he had sex with Lucia, etc. Such minor decisions but they complete a picture.

Both times he left his socks on! So gross

It’s the Sock Gap from Coupling! Nononooooo! Bad form!

I'm rewatching the first episode for fun. Here are some things I am noticing:

- At the end of the first scene, Valentina pulls up in a van and is then surprised to hear the news from Rocco about the dead bodies. This struck me because it appears she is coming from somewhere else on "official" business. Since she seems to be at the hotel almost every waking hour, this seemed somewhat surprising. Where is she coming from? Maybe some other guest crisis?

- When we first see Greg, he is waiting for Tanya in a courtyard filled with orange (or tangerine?) trees. Like there are a bunch of them.

- Harper's first two outfits are surprisingly sexy. Her white suit on the boat seems buttoned up at first, but then you can see that she's just wearing a black bra underneath with no shirt, and you can see right through the gaps between the buttons. Then she wears a very sultry black swimsuit on their first trip to the pool (it's what she's wearing when Cameron strips in front of her). After that her outfits get more buttoned up, less sexy. A lot of menswear-inspired items or high collars, loser fits, less revealing. Even when she's trying to seduce her husband, her nightie is not that revealing. Until the last episode when she wears a low cut sun dress to the vineyard and that tight white shift dress with side cutouts to dinner. I think more than other characters, Harper's clothes are a response to how she feels and what her goals are. I think she buttons up when she feels Cameron maybe hitting on her, but then let's it rip after catching Ethan in the lie about the night with the hookers.

- After meeting Albie, Portia looks up his IG in her hotel room and in some recent photos he's sporting some sad little mustache that is kind of "Chaz Hanks" ish. It's hilarious and also maybe a sign that Albie isn't as clean cut as he appears on this trip with his dad and grandpa.

- We never actually see Cameron and Daphne getting it on in the first ep. We see them talking and being flirtatious (him tickling her, her running away) and the implication is that they are having sex and Harper and Ethan aren't. But we don't see it. And given the this show is not shy about showing sex, and that we see Cameron later with Lucia, this jumped out at me.

I definitely think Greg could die. We already know he was sick, so maybe his illness came back. Or maybe he is plotting to kill Tanya and it goes wrong on him somehow and he ends up dead rather than her

I think Greg is the Montana cowboy and is colluding with Tom Hollander.

I also wonder whether Lucia is going to turn out to be related to the Italian guys. She had a conversation with Greg about her home village and he said something like “We’re supposed to go to visit there later.” They were going to visit the village that their family was from. I think there’s going to be some connection there.

Major red flag for her. No female friends at all? Even from High School? College?

I thought the same thing re Greg! Also, does anyone remember how Greg didn’t seem to have his own room in season 1?? They always went to Tanya’s room. One time his “key didn’t work”… and then he went into the room that Kai said was empty (kai stole the master key to meet up with Paula ).

Eh, that's how an aperol spriz is made and they drank aperol spritzes because that's what you do on vacation.

Oranges also exist in the world and people eat them because they're food. Didn't stop them from being meaningful in the Godfather.

I really think it was just because of the location. Aperol Spritzes are like the national drink of Italy in the summer.

I'm aware. Italy is littered with frescoes and art IRL too. They are still being used symbolically in the show.

So what is it symbolizing, then? That all four of them are going to die?
