My very bad “allergies” was Breakthrough Covid the whole time and I feel horrible about it.

Interesting article, since we're basing our opinions only on unscientific data points, what does this tell us?
Of the 346 fully vaccinated cases, median age was 42, and 87% were men.

It tells us that middle-aged gay men partied in Provincetown on July 4th, assuming that being fully-vaccinated was sufficient to protect them from getting/spreading COVID and, as a result, we now all know that is not (or is no longer) true given the Delta variant. This is one reason why the CDC is advocating a return to indoor masking even among the vaccinated.

Why does it matter that they were gay? Do you think they thought the coronavirus is homophobic?

From the medical perspective, it matters because their immune system is generally weaker to fight off the virus. It is just a risk factor, same as obesity.

. What?

NP, I think about 6% were immunocompromised based on the case study.

A preliminary analysis matching cluster-associated COVID-19 cases with the state HIV case surveillance data identified 30 (6%) cases with verified HIV infection; all were virally suppressed, and none were hospitalized as a result of infection with SARS-CoV-2.

+1. At some point it’s the most at risk people that need to protect themselves. They need to stay at home, avoid crowds and indoor places. We can’t hide for ever. If you are at risk, wear your masks, don’t meet up with friends, etc.
I have no pre existing condition and I don’t really know anyone that does (perhaps not aware)…

God this is such a selfish point of view. The immunocomprised should just continue to live like hermits so the rest of us can go back to "normal"? The more the rest of the world does go back to normal, the harder it becomes for the immunocomprosed to stay safe. Eff you.

The immunocompromised are probably not going to have a safe world for a while. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is. I say this as someone with an immunocompromised family member. We don't make policies for 3-5% of the population.

Unless they are trans.

It turns out it wasn’t allergies, it was extremely mild covid. I’m vaccinated.

No, this is not good news. Yes, vaccinated people are more likely to get very mild cases. But I had it the WHOLE TIME. Two weeks or so. Who knows how many people I’ve spread it to? I work from home, but I’ve gone out to restaurants, gone over friends houses, I haven’t been staying home. At all. Haven’t heard of any symptomatic cases from friends I’ve contacted yet but I could have infected someone who is not vaccinated or can’t be vaccinated, has young children, or is immunocompromised.

Wear your masks folks.

Is you local health agency contact tracing?

Most counties stopped trying to contact trace in winter of 2020 when it first got out of control. I don’t know if any have resumed. Even back in Nov of 2020 it took a week for Fairfax county to call me about my exposure. Luckily I was already quarantining.

Weak immune system does not equate to HIV. You must be clueless about how your defense system works.

I think that the has to be mask wearing and distancing for any vaccinated person with symptoms. Frankly, at some point, even with a positive test vaccinated people should be able to wear masks and continue with their activities if they are well enough to do so. Ten day quarantines for vaccinated people aren't reasonable unless there is conclusive evidence that there is a serious risk of transmission for that long (which we don't have).

The Provincetown outbreak involved a very specific population who went there to party and were likely engage in very close contact, so it does not reflect transmission under usual circumstances. High quality masks would be much better than isolation for the vaxxed. The study showed similar viral loads in vaccinated symptomatic positive people and non-vaxxed positive people, but that is based on a nasal swab, which does not necessarily equate to equal likelihood of transmission.

I don’t know about the HIV question but it’s possible. The other thing is that they may have had a lot of close face to face contact. There has to be some explanation for why there were so many cases.

We already know how many were immunocompromised per the CDC, 5%. It's not significant.

The close contact is the real issue, and this strain of covid is more transmissible.

How close of contact are we talking…? It seems very suspicious. I think there must be something going on with this particular situation because nowhere else has there been this many breakthrough cases.

Close contact is not necessary for delta transmission. They have found that simply walking unmasked past a person with delta is enough for transmission. The info I saw out of Australia estimated 5-10 seconds of passing contact.

I agree.

I also agree. It's just a mild cold if you got vaccinated. If you didn't get vaccinated then that's on you. Let the Delta variant spread faster and burn out I say!
