The body cam footage makes great case for manslaughter. There should be no excuse for accidentally firing a weapon- even the army no longer recognizes accidental discharge; it’s always automatically at least a negligent a discharge |
In what universe does “the media” not report on officers killed in the line of duty? |
| I did google, where are you seeing the body cam footage and dash footage? |
I have to agree. If I wriggled out of handcuffs during a traffic stop I would expect that I was risking my life. I think the officer made a terrible error but that is all. Whereas I hope Chavin is found guilty. |
Multiple videos on Twitter |
Um, no, she did not follow the procedure for a taser because...she pulled out a gun. And, you don't know what her true intent was. How many times do we have to see the same shit happen before we realize that there are SOME cops that have lethal intent when they encounter certain people? |
Probably not. She doesn’t work for US Capitol Police. |
I don’t think you understand what negligent homicide is, which in the case of Minnesota means second degree manslaughter. She wasn’t consciously creating an unreasonable risk. She made a terrible mistake while in a difficult situation. I tend to think cases where there is any question (which I would say would include this) should go to trial, or at least a grand jury, but from what I saw on that video, there’s no way I’d vote to convict on a homicide charge. |
Her name is not anywhere so I think it’s still being withheld |
It’s been reported https://www.startribune.com/officer-who-fatally-shot-man-in-brooklyn-center-is-identified-as-26-year-veteran/600045243/ |

This is horrible we all know this.
The officer involved is a 26 year veteran. One would think she would know the difference between her taser and her gun. A gun weighs more. It would have felt very different to her even in the heat of the moment. I highly doubt the officer woke up this morning deciding to kill someone. She needed better training and this is negligent manslaughter. A "senior" member of the department should know the difference between a gun and a taser. Whatever this man did prior to getting killed is not the issue. Anyone who thinks so is wrong. |
Oh, so personal responsibility is only a thing for people who are trying to earn a living, NOT criminals. Gotcha. Guess we can just go ahead and cancel the whole justice system, huh? |
You should probably be executed the next time you speed while driving. Shrugs / personal responsibility. |
Seriously? She has probably arrested HUNDREDS of POC in her career. You’re saying she wanted to kill them all? but this was the one time she got a shot off. Mmkay. |
+1 The Supreme a court ruled on this before this officer was even born. It should not keep happening. |
