+1,000. The fact that this was walked back should have its own thread (not that people who are so dug in on their position will pay any attention...). |
| There have been a few cases at my DC's charter school, which is has been doing mostly DL learning. Some teachers have been positive, even though they had not set foot in school. Some kids tested positive but there was no spread. Why? Because of the safety precautions which work! Kids grouped in small groups, stick rules about wearing masks, contact tracing. Safety measures work. There is no reason schools can't open. |

Please contact Elissa Silverman today, Chair of the LABOR Committee and let her know how you feel about creating mountains of red tape and a perfunctory council that will effectively keep schools closed for the rest of the school and year and possibly into the next.

Its really sad - people see there are a few cases and think its no big deal. Its a really big deal for the people who have it - its a really big deal for the people who are severely ill for a few weeks or months (that is happening). It is a huge worry about how people will pay bills, get to the doctor, take care of their children when they can barely breathe (and those are the lucky ones who don't need the hospital).
And then to see people talk about risk vs. reward - well our kids could die from the flu and we take that risk; we could be in a car accident but we drive places. Its really gross. DC has the highest disparity of covid affecting black and brown families - believe it or not we have a huge disparity of income by race, access to healthcare, etc. But you are tired of your kids - you are worried about their education. Statistically your kids will do better no matter what - but your exhaustion is nothing to a mom living literally on the other side of the river. But hey - you post on a message board instead of making a cup of oatmeal serve three kids. You post on a message board so you know how its okay to trash adult women with things you would never say to their face. You post on a message board without your name and tell us how your husband the doctor thinks x, y and z. But none of these doctors are out there petitioning the city. There is a whole reopen dc movement on twitter but the women behind it are so chicken they don't post their names. Its gross. I won't be telling my kid he can't run in 10 years because he got asymptomatic covid. And yes women are doing the lion's share but maybe you chose the wrong men - oh yeah I'll shame your husband choices - if he can't manage the kids and work and cooking and cleaning and all the invisible labor then why did you marry him? Because he could buy you a big house in chevy chase and allow you to entertain $40k a year in private school fees? But oh you figured out how to do x, y and z - you figured how to test and get to the beach for a week and do this and that. Because the rules don't apply to you. The whine about basketball courts is a key example. Apparently your precious children can't get exercise without basketball; your precious children aren't learning that they are part of a community and they need to do things to protect them. |

Went to the dentist yesterday in Cleveland Park - Wisc ave. So many parents with their tory birch and LV purses (i.e. wealthy or good credit) couldn't seem to understand call the office and they will tell you when to come up to keep the waiting room clear. So many parents bringing extra kids who didn't need to be there (I guess their husbands were unable to babysit the kids - they had wedding bands). So many shocked they needed to have their temp taken or be forced to use hand sani.
But yeah lets open schools when parents can't follow instructions for a doctor's office. Yeah let's open schools when the kids who came couldn't sit still and keep distance from others with their parents watching them. |
Parent here. I’m not sure what is wrong about holding DCPS accountable. |
Did you actually read the Bill? It establishes various totally arbitrary limits (no more than 150 classes; no more than 7 per building; why?) and creates a new advisory council that it then gives absolutely no power to, it's completely bizarre. I have rarely seen such an example of useless showpony legislation. |
Russisan bot? Or just idiot? |
Wow. Sorry you’re so angry, PP. I get annoyed by rich people just as much as you do, but the science just isn’t on your side here. It’s easy for you to sit behind an anonymous name and, out of fear, call people who want to reopen racist. It’s harder to acknowledge that schools could have been open safely this whole time. |
There are no Russian bots posting on DCUM. Foreign intelligence services don't care what we think about DCPS reopening, and they don't need to bother stirring up disagreement over it. |
Would virtually guarantee that you are wrong. There have been, for example, newspaper articles about their infiltration of local forums about gardening in South Florida. The point is to sew dissent. Usually on issues involving the government or regulation in some way, sometimes along racial lines. It's not about the specific subject. |
| I know for a fact that some children and adults tested passive at Tyler ES |
