Its really sad - people see there are a few cases and think its no big deal. Its a really big deal for the people who have it - its a really big deal for the people who are severely ill for a few weeks or months (that is happening). It is a huge worry about how people will pay bills, get to the doctor, take care of their children when they can barely breathe (and those are the lucky ones who don't need the hospital). And then to see people talk about risk vs. reward - well our kids could die from the flu and we take that risk; we could be in a car accident but we drive places. Its really gross. DC has the highest disparity of covid affecting black and brown families - believe it or not we have a huge disparity of income by race, access to healthcare, etc. But you are tired of your kids - you are worried about their education. Statistically your kids will do better no matter what - but your exhaustion is nothing to a mom living literally on the other side of the river. But hey - you post on a message board instead of making a cup of oatmeal serve three kids. You post on a message board so you know how its okay to trash adult women with things you would never say to their face. You post on a message board without your name and tell us how your husband the doctor thinks x, y and z. But none of these doctors are out there petitioning the city. There is a whole reopen dc movement on twitter but the women behind it are so chicken they don't post their names. Its gross. I won't be telling my kid he can't run in 10 years because he got asymptomatic covid. And yes women are doing the lion's share but maybe you chose the wrong men - oh yeah I'll shame your husband choices - if he can't manage the kids and work and cooking and cleaning and all the invisible labor then why did you marry him? Because he could buy you a big house in chevy chase and allow you to entertain $40k a year in private school fees? But oh you figured out how to do x, y and z - you figured how to test and get to the beach for a week and do this and that. Because the rules don't apply to you. The whine about basketball courts is a key example. Apparently your precious children can't get exercise without basketball; your precious children aren't learning that they are part of a community and they need to do things to protect them.
