No it wouldn't. That's not what TJ is.

+1
You know how many wealthy and mediocre kids there are academically???

There will be academically mediocre kids at TJ in the future so the point still stands.

FCPS didnt deliver on this before, why would they now? Also, it would be coming from McLean taxes anyway. There is no benefit in waiting around for FCPS

Umm, you really think that McLean is solely funding renovations for FCPS buildings?

shaming people for wanting the best for their kids isn't going to work here.

If you keep all the poors out, the scores will soar!!! Just look at Langley, PP.

It is not just about poors. Mclean has an extremely well educated. Lots of Harvard, MIT, UVA types. Well educated parents produce well educated children.

The poors in McLean are often the Asians who live in a modest home. The modest home is still $1m. Then you also have the rich Asian kids, rich Persian kids, rich white kids. If your parents are successful business owners, lawyers and doctors, you will have the proper support at home to succeed academically.

Wanting the best for their kids does not equal hoarding resources; the two are not mutually exclusive.

I’m nearly 100% confident the moratorium will be extended beyond 2024.

The (clearly) UMC white people who are excited about the prospect of a new “McLean City” have no clue what the real-world implications would be on their wallets as well as the local business climate.

Are you implying that only rich people can provide "proper support" for their kids to succeed?

I would be totally on board with this if the City of McLean included ALL of the current McLean High School and Langley High School boundary areas. This would be a city that could provide all the same services of Fairfax County. There would not be any fighting with neighborhoods being left behind.

Obviously Fairfax County as an entity as a whole would fight this, but the actual people in Fairfax County would likely not really care - they would be like good riddance.

Fairfax County provides A LOT of resources that people don't ever think about. There are the things that everyone thinks of like schools, zoning, fire department, police, roads, snow removal. But things like courts, health department, disability services, elder services, animal control, libraries, parks, voting, etc. all need to be handled as well.

Vienna should also become a city.

It's would actually increase equity! More homogeneity in terms of economics and parental education/involvement via smaller jurisdictions would increase overall equity in each respective jurisdiction.

It would solve the gap!

Really? Because reading this thread makes me happy we picked Vienna vs. McLean.

Oh yes there would be.

Why Langley and not certain areas of Falls Church that are closer in than Langley?

FCPS ignores McLean in favor of “equity”, so what would you expect?

Because Langley is in McLean. And certain areas of Falls Church would be included - the ones that area already included as part of McLean High School Boundaries. It would just take two whole high school boundaries and not be a cause for boundary disputes.
