They have been in and talking about the Florida house for months. For reference, outdoor shower post and pink kitchen painting post. |
I actually like them both but agree, that house is not working for them spacewise. Tbf, it looks like it was designed to be a vacation house. But I find all the blogs depressing because half of it is about how something that looks horrible is actually not that bad. Even the pink kitchen is depressing. |
It's just so bizarre that they didn't put their bedroom upstairs and instead took a perfectly good living room, walled it off, and turned it into a bedroom. And now the drama with "we can't put a fireplace there because it's against code to have a ventless fireplace in the bedroom." First, what kind of a moron removes a chimney, and second, IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A LIVING ROOM. So dumb. This house is a disaster. |
That's what she wants you think. |
The crystal candle thing they rigged up to replace the fake logs was behind ridiculous. They need to move to a bigger house so they can get back to what they are good at. I think it will be soon, they already admitted to having dropped their plans to add a master closet and bath. |
It seems to me like they've either given up and are going to move soon, or fixing all the water damage on their first floor plus all the exterior work means they've run out of money. But I don't understand how they could have sold three houses (does the duplex count as one or two?) and only bought one (even if cost them $800K plus, say, $100K in renovations) and be out of money. |
I think the first, they aren’t doing any more big changes because they realize they won’t get the money back when they sell in a few months. |
I was coming here for some snark about those hideous crystal logs in the fire place. They look RIDICULOUS.
I don't normally hate on them, but that was a pretty terrible choice. I am also curious if they'll keep this house. They seem to be desperately sharing how much they love it. But the no living room thing is maybe taking it's toll. That little sitting area is just not gonna cut it. |
I'll be shocked if they are still in this house in 2 years.
I bet they are actively looking for a new house with a better layout in their neighborhood. |
They spent a ton of money renovating those three beach houses and they would have had to pay capital gains taxes because they didnt own the houses for very long. Even if they made money on the flips, it's very possible they made the equivalent of minimum wage by the time you count the time they spent sourcing, driving back and forth, tiling, making trips to IKEA, obsessing, etc. It wasn't exactly an efficient process. |
Dp, bit this is just a silly argument. They also obviously have income from furniture and lighting lines, book sales, affiliate links, and whatever jobs they have irl. |
You dont think it's possible to lose flip flopping houses, particularly when done as inefficiently as J&S? |
Weird auto correct. *lose money flipping houses |
Of course it is possible to lose money flipping houses. But I doubt YHL did, once you factor in all the money they made from swipe ups and sponsorships and affiliate shopping links during the beach house renos. I loved those Cape Charles renos - they were my favorite content from YHL in a long time.

They will make major plans behind the scenes all the while telling readers how everything is just as they planned, very rosy.
Four months later ... call us crazy, but we're moving again! Yup, the pod is packed and we are excited to share our new digs with you soooooooon. The first Florida house was fantastic and bringing it back to life felt so good, but we knew it wasn't "the one" for us. Can you say that about a house?! Anyhow, stay tuned! I doubt they'll show challenges for what they were, which is missing potential for content as they navigate this adjustment. We've all faced unforeseen problems, talk about that. |
