I wish they had “intentionally” downsized meaning they had planned how to best maximize a smaller house through clever design and space planning. This house is so chopped up and has no good flow. They live 2 blocks from the beach and the house could have been a really lovely one with some substantial changes to improve the living. They could have built a small addition upstairs for a new master bedroom and bath, keeping the family space and deck. Shifting the staircase and using the downstairs as one big kitchen/family space with a large walkout deck. So many possibilities and all they did was keep the basic existing footprint and update the bathroom and floors. |
Are you trying to be dense? Having to be two places at once is when things like a doctors appointment conflict with a conference call at home. Yes, they have one car, and they work from home. They’re also married. Of course they’re going to be together A LOT. |
YES!!!! I was really hoping for something like this. Their cape Charles beach houses had good flow and so many great design elements. The Florida house is the opposite. Terrible flow and it seems like they’re trying to force big house into the small space. They’re definitely going to sell this house and move in a couple years. |
John seems to be the only one writing the blog posts theses days? Has this always been the case? |
No. That’s also a little strange. In the beginning Sherry wrote most of the blog posts. |
Schools are in person in that part of Florida. |
I think They said on the podcast that their kids are doing school online. I expect if they stay they will eventually decide to do a major renovation. |
You must be forgetting about the innovative olive oil/salt jar drawer. Check out John describes it like having your cooking oil on its side in a dedicated drawer is a happy accident. lol So here we are: our olive oil drawer. Yes, it literally contains a single bottle of EVOO and a jar of salt. All of our spatulas and cooking utensils are on the counter, so this drawer didn’t really fit much else (even our rolls of foil and plastic wrap didn’t fit), but it’s actually nice to have our cooking oil near the stove and in a cool dark place. By some small miracle Sherry even had a plastic bin that fit the olive oil bottle and the drawer perfectly so errant drips don’t ruin the drawer. |
I'm getting the sense Sherry has an actual job. This is very surprising since the blog has been her primary job since before her kids were born. It must not have been supporting them sufficiently any more, or she just got bored with the blog. Who knows. |
The drawer picture didnt come through. It's in the most recent blog post on their site. I'll give it one more shot.

Haha! I bet they are house shopping right now! 50/50 that they buy another house in Florida or go back to Richmond... But 100% odds they move within 24 months. The way they talk about that house reeks of an exercise in positive thinking: Like when you hate your job, but you don’t want to be negative so when it comes up in conversation, you gush about something trivial that you like: “Guys, I just got a new office chair and boy is it awesome! It spins! And it’s such a nice shade of black! I love my chair soooooo much.” |
