Under Trump? They are not considered white so even the ones who risked their lives to help the US, served as translators, etc, can't get amnesty, even though their lives are in danger by being left there. Trump has deported US veterans. Tammy Duckworth just went to Mexico spend Veterans Day with a bunch of them. His whole goal is to weaken the US military. Every decision he has made that has affected the military and veterans has been weaken it for the future. Anyone who can't see he is Putin's minion is blind. |
ummm At what point does this end? fine- Provide a path toward citizenship for those here, for those who qualify. I get it. But then END IT. Why encourage illegal behavior? DACA had its place. We need to move on. |
They were children with no say in the matter. You want them deported to a country they have no roots in?! May not even speak the language. They are in a horrible situation. |
They will not be deported. Unless of course, they have criminal records. This is all about our Constitution. If Obama had the constitutional right to issue an EO regarding DACA (which is questionable), then Trump had the constitutional right to issue an EO overturning DACA. It is really that simple. |
Wow. It’s not just the US that gets involved in other countries. If we’re going to keep track of this, there are some other countries that should be taking in illegal immigrants also. And there is no way the US is solely responsible for the ills of India, China, Israel, South America, Africa. We have illegal immigrants coming here from all over the world. Which countries exactly do you feel we are responsible for, and which do we ignore? If this is your argument, then you can lobby to provide more opportunities for legal immigration. But encouraging illegal immigration is not a logical answer by any means. |
What ‘race’ do you feel it comes down to? I’m not the PP but I live in MoCo and we have illegal immigrants from all over the world, and with all shades of skin color. White Israeli illegal immigrants, Asian immigrants, Eastern European illegal immigrants, Latino illegal immigrants, etc. |
“Please thank your parents for us” for bringing you into this country illegally —Nancy Pelosi. |
Many people argue that their great grandparents came to the US without an immigration paper 50, 100, or 150 years so the US should allow anyone who are from a foreign country to stay, work and become citizens today. The problem is there are countries and boarders between the countries.
Will you let any homeless people to build a tent on your yard or live inside of your house forever without your permission? |
Agreed. That is a ridiculous argument. Times change. Situations change. We need to look at the situation as it is now and work to make it better. The status quo is not working. |
DP, but there is definitely a racial component for some objectors. As white voters edge toward becoming a shrinking plurality of the populace, there will be an electoral shift, which some feel will be irreversible in favor of Democrats. This is why Ann Coulter and other right wing elements are so stridently against DACA amnesty and so fervently in favor of border security measures. Electoral calculus. |
That’s nonsense. Her opposition to DACA stands no matter where the person is from. And even under the status quo, Dreamers can’t vote because they are not citizens. Doesn’t stop them from being loud mouthed, ungrateful, and entitled though. |
DP. In both cases I feel like the children should not be punished for the sins of the parents. Not being a millionaire isn't a punishment. Being dropped off in the middle of a country where you know no one and don't speak the language can be a literal death sentence. |
Oh the drama. As others have pointed out, most of them do speak the language, or enough to easily learn it. And many of the countries are not as violent or dangerous as they make them out to be. In fact, their countries would benefit from an influx of American-educated young people. We would be doing those countries a service to send them back, in addition to ourselves. |
You should poke around more. This is definitely a thing. It's about voting. It's about maintaining culture. It's about not incentivizing more illegal immigration. Race is a proxy for a lot of these things and all of this will change the electoral landscape. |
Hmm, I think I’ll take my young kids to El Salvador, enroll them in local, free public schools, work for years without paying taxes, and then demand that they give my children (and by extension me) a path to citizenship. If I meet any resistance, I will scream, yell, insult the country’s politicians and history, call people racist, and refuse to go. I wonder how I will be received? Very warmly, I’m sure! |
