How do old wealthy women stay so skinny?

But, there is also another possibility, they are driven women, and many driven women have a ton of restless energy. You ever see that person that is always tapping her leg when in a restaurant? She is generals skinny, all my friends that are like this are. And those women that are always walking fast, no matter where? Generally skinny. Now, all this eating a lot of food is more a trend for poor and MC who watch tv and commercial and are prone to consumerism. If they are very old, they never got the idea to be gluttons. I think that is what it really comes down to, we are all gluttons and these old skinny, rich women never fell for the consumerism. Getting heavy is letting yourself go, as I wrote about the royals today, letting yourself go is shameful and for the "masses," in their minds. See, when people say, "my mother eats like a bird," that really means that this person is eating plenty to have energy and survive, but not engaging in gluttony, which is how it seems to all of us with skewed food attitudes.

This is so incorrect. While most older women get confident and happier in the skin they are in and their own taste in fashion - some don't. I know older women with eating disorders, chain smoking, cosmetic surgery obsessed, label ho's and they are not secure or happy.

Nothing in you post makes my post wrong. They can be all you said and all I said and many are pill popping, plastic surgery ocd.

Yep. Another size 2 here. We eat, we just eat small portions. I go to lunch with my coworkers regularly and get comments like "so that's how you stay so small" and "are you really full after eating that". But I really do get full! I don't diet. I eat a lot of veggies. I rarely eat dessert, and when I do it's something like a few squares of dark chocolate or a big bowl of raspberries. I don't judge my coworkers who make those comments and then get in line for Chik fil A - it's important for me to remain slim so I choose to eat a certain way, they have other priorities, it's a free country...

If you saw the ravages of osteoporosis and what it does you would eat you calcium carry some weight on your bones. I know several thin old people who repeatedly fall and break like glass and end up in nursing homes for months only to fall again months later. It's frightening.

There are not even average, middle-of-the-BMI-chart women here. They are just very, very thin. And I know these older women aren’t popping Adderall or joining orangetheory. How are they so thin?

Personal trainers
Personal chefs

How did you get to where you feel full from small portions? Do you snack?

That’s not true. I’m 59, thin, and eat three meals a day. Occasionally I have snacks. Not everyone starves themselves.

Sounds like a permanent diet.

At least their corpses will be pretty. /s

My elderly neighbor was plump. Not fat, just plump. She got cancer and now is near skeletal. I can't imagine if she hadnt had that extra weight.

Yes this is a thing I have read or heard or read and heard, that often times the difference in mortality rates with for some diseases is extra weight. I stay fat just to be on the safe side.

In all seriousness, my mom had this issue. She was 105 pounds her entire adult life. Then she got cancer. It was awful.

My mom wasn't thin, she was a size 12. She didn't lose one lb when she battled breast cancer. She even gained weight on chemo. She died anyway. Being bigger didn't help her.

Let's not forget, skinny people have decreased risk of getting cancer compared to fat people.

I don't know where you're getting all this "skinny people don't eat" thing.

Lots of skinny people eat a LOT, they're just naturally thin. Maybe higher metabolisms is the answer.

Exception, not the rule.

yep. I often wonder why 20 year old college kids are plumb when they have those young, high metabolisms. Then I remembered how much I drank in my 20s.

I am working hard to take off 10 pounds in my 40s. HARD It used to melt away - a month of diet and exercise in my 30s and any excess weight was gone. So why was I always plumb in my 20s: BEER.

Also, I agree with pp that most women are ED-ish. Start up a conversation about weight and food and exercise with any group of women and then listen to the crazy. The amount of bandwidth we spend on this stuff is heartbreaking.

Let's not forget, there is an obesity epidemic in this country.
In 1962, 46 percent of adults in the US were considered overweight or obese. By 2010, that figure jumped to 75 percent.

Every situation is unique, but in general, people in this country need to change the way they eat and the amount they move.

Just one way an older woman is skinny - she has enormous self restraint Every Day. Every Day. Now that I’m somewhat older and have a slower metabolism, I see even older women who are thin and admire their self restraint because I know how hard it is to maintain a healthy weight at an advanced age.
