Not going to happen. |
I suspect you'll wait a long time.... FCV is for profit. They don't own their own fields and are always short. They have limited corporate infrastructure and a very small youth program. GFR is non-profit. They get field space via Fairfax County. They have a large paid and volunteer force that handles logistics and communications. FCV can't provide what would be needed unless "taking over the GFR partnership" really means dissolving the Washington Spirit DA and assuming a few players onto FCV. That would have already happened if it was going to happen for 2019-2020. |
FCV United is nonprofit. |
A renewal letter is something you publicize, not hide. If Spirit hasn't publicized their renewal letter, they don't have one. https://www.soccerwire.com/notes/west-florida-flames-awarded-renewal-letter-for-ussda-membership/ |

Spirit got rid of their successful DA with an established pipeline just to keep the not successful DA with no pipeline is an over saturated market. This is their pathway to the pros?
Even the diehards have to question this. |
Yes, but FCV DA is for profit. And FCV United struggles for field space (which is why practices are constantly canceled when it rains since they don't have access to turf the way clubs in Fairfax County (where the are a LOT more publicly owned turf fields) do. |
Hence the beauty of partnerships |
This is the most logical thing that has been said in this thread. By all accounts, the MD teams have been better run, and better positioned for success, than WSVA. MD announced last week the end of the Spirit affiliation and the move to Baltimore Armour. Given this fact (not rumor) about the MD teams, one has to ask why the VA teams would be treated differently by Spirit. Maybe Spirit told both MD and VA that Spirit was getting out of youth after the 19-20 season, and the MD team decided to make the break a year early? Time will tell with the VA teams, but the MD teams are already split from Spirit for next year. |
They did not get rid of anything. All local DA programs will exist next year. There may be administrative changes but the coaches and players remain. |
did they officially announce that? I know its happening because the coaches have said it, but didnt see anything official. |
If you mean an official announcement on the DA or Baltimore Armour website, then no, it has not been officially announced. But, as you said, the coaches have told the players and parents. If anyone doesn't believe it, come to the games this weekend at Evergreen and ask any of the MD parents. |
If that's true, where is the official announcement? Why hasn't it been posted? That makes no sense either. Announcements like that go up online. Even the defunct airline WOW posted something on their main page. |
Not trying to pick a fight, but you will not see the MD teams wearing Spirit jerseys next year. They will be wearing Baltimore Armour jerseys. Maybe that is just an "administrative change" to you, but that's not how I'd classify it. I agree though that the MD coaches and players will remain, and the MD teams will probably be even better run next year once they are out from the restrictions placed upon them by the pro team, and Spirit's general disorganization and mismanagement. It will be a positive for the MD teams. |
We'll be at Evergreen this Saturday from 1-5. Talk to any of the MD parents and ask whether it is true. |
