Maybe it depends on the age group. But yes it is. And people shouldn’t take it as a slight. There are good players in ECNL, but the overall talent is concentrated in DA.
Let’s take a look at this statement regarding girls. In MD: Pipeline, Mont. Rush Coyotes, and Celtic are the three best clubs. Non are GDA. Non are ECNL either. Pipeline has some girls that played PT for Spirit MD DA, but when they did not show up WSMD got crushed typically. Next best club is Bethesda ECNL. So in MD ECNL and EDP are the best, not DA.
In Northern VA: FCV DA is the best. Then Arlington DA. Close between those two clubs. But after these two it is McLean ECNL. At oldest ages BRYC ECNL is better than Loudoun and VDA ECNL or MU DA. At younger ages it is a toss up between these four clubs. So will give slight edge to DA in VA simply due to FCV and Arlington.
Not the OP but the commenter was commenting on talent not clubs. You can have very talented players mixed with a few players out of their depth who can platoon teams for wins. Conversely, you can win games by blasting the ball down the field with big and fast players, this doesn’t equal talent either. The statement that was made had to do with an evaluation of the individual soccer players in DA on average vs the others, not a record comparison of clubs, as you seem to have taken it.
Ahh... the poster with the skilled but weak and unathletic kid. In case you did not notice, soccer is a SPORT. It is not hacky-sack or dance. Speed, strength, and size ARE talent. So are skill and smarts. All five working in combination. So tired of simple minded parents that think it is only about ball skills and ball possession. There are times to posses and times to be direct. Times to use fastest kid on the team's talents and times to use the best passer, dribbler, composed, etc. Come up with a better statistic then such as: most "D1" players; most "pros"; most people that
you personally think are really good based on your "expert" opinion? Please, enlighten us oh soccer guru.
Wrong! Size is not a talent but a trait. There are 4 tall kids on my sons soccer team that break our team! We have a new coach and they got placed on team B.
his is what good coaches mainly look for :
Good first touch/ kick strong right/left
Always hustling to great angles for passing / good with and without ball.
Agility/ great endurance
Player thinks as a team, we not me
You lose the ball you get it back
Constantly fighting for the ball/never letting your guard down
It’s just awful how there are some coaches who will pick a bigger player lacking these skills over someone
Who deserves to be on the team.
