Where are all you families of high performing students planning on moving to?

+100. Tons of naive people on this forum. I'm glad the younger generation are more evolved. Signed, Asian parent staying put. My kids don't need an entire school of "smart" kids to help them do well.

+1 There's also just no such thing as a whole school full of kids who are high achievers. There are certainly schools with MORE high achievers (read: more kids with plenty of advantages) but no school (even a private school) has only high achievers. That's what tells you these folks aren't really talking about high achievers, because even schools full of rich kids have some slackers, losers, addicts, depressives, and kids who just think they are too cool to try.

Who said anything about wanting a school with 100% high achievers? We’re okay with at least 70% of students who are at least meeting all of the on grade level targets. It DOESN’T matter what class(rich middle poor) or color(pink, yellow, black or white).

Oh please, Asian communities are among the most cliquish and tight communities. Just look at Potomac/Rockville and Boyds and Clarksburg. Your kids may not need any help at all when it comes to school performance but you probably “prefer” to be surrounded by a lot of smart kids.

We’d be fine with 60%.

So what? We got the means so we’ll go where we want.

Do you guys even know what “grade level targets” are? It’s based on PARCC, which was a notoriously bad exam they are now abandoning. My child who consistently reads several grade levels ahead and received 99% scores on MAP R still only scored 4 (on grade level) on PARCC reading.

And how do you determine the percentage of high achievers in a school?

You guys can dash off and make your kids start all over again in a new school and neighborhood every time your GreatSchools score drops two points, but my children are actually from somewhere, and are attached to the people and community they have grown up with. A community is more than a number (and you will never build a community if you’re only there for the number).

DP... could be why they aren't going anywhere.

DP.. I would imagine they would look at % who passed PARCC for ES/MS, and SAT scores for HS.

Ha, I'm the Asian PP and actually live in Clarksburg. The thing is I don't care about my kid being surrounded by tons of smart kids. As long as the school has programs that will challenge my kids, then I'm cool with that. I figure if the program exists then there must be a cohort of kids who need it. Who cares of it's 60% or 40%.

A community is also more than some building structure or a piece of house. Yes, it’s about the people. That’s why we tend to move in masses TOGETHER. We’re not starting over just because we move to a new location, we are continuing to live in our community.

The kids with autism that are main streamed into my kids class cause my kid more problems that the Farms kids do.
So unless they dont allow SN kids in Howard and Frederick you are moving for nothing.
