Only by people who are affiliated with UVA. The Harvard, Princeton, etc do not know of UVA. |

It is a made up list, but so is USNews and the other rankings. I think most"public Ivy" lists like this include UVA. (They also include Wiliam and Mary.) Note that Prepscholar is trying to expand the decades old list. Prepscholar appears to show Berkeley as number 1, not UVA. |

I’ve never heard an actual UVA student or alumni day “public Ivy.” Just parents.
Why isn’t it enough that your child goes to an excellent public? Why do you have to trot out the “public Ivy” thing? The students and alumni are proud to go there and don’t seem interested in that term. |

Cheap and good also. Like, say, Cal or Michigan. Texas I guess, also. Pretty steep drop off after that. |

It’s not as good as an Ivy. In fact the drop off from the Ives to the schools you list is huge. This is why you compare UVA to an Ivy or Public Ivy. In the real world no one is saying UVA is the same as an Ivy. It’s not. You could get straights A’s at UVA and an Ivy student with gentleman “B” will be selected over the UVA grad every day! |

More like xlnt and inexpensive. The delta between UVA and an ivy can now be as much as $55,000 a year in after tax dollars (so you have to make $90K to pay for one year). For us the delta was $45K in after-tax dollars. We would have to make 85K a year to pay that. 85K a year x 5 years (75% of our nation's graduates are now taking 5-6 years to graduate ) = $410K or more. x two or three kids = Savings of $1.2 million. That delta went into the bank to pay for Ivy grad school. |
