Why so much UVA jealousy?

It’s basically the SLAC of elite state colleges with a fantastic law and business school.

+ 1 Great way to put it. All four of the big four are unique, and if you live in Cali, Michigan or Virginia, you’re really lucky to have them as in-state options.

What makes it comparable to a SLAC?? It is a great uni but I’d say William & Mary is the one more like a SLAC.

I think that poster meant compared to Cal, UCLA or Michigan. UVA is much smaller and the buildings and vibe is slightly private-ish feeling compared to those three.

This “revival” was started by a UVA hater. The very next post was a hate post. Clearly, this person has an issue with UVA, but everyone in the DMV, especially those in VA, know that UVA is a great school and bargain. This requires no debate or “revival.” If you prefer another school and/or can afford better, congratulations. Let’s move along from this discussion.

I think the UVA hate is fueled by the very specific brand of UVA snobbery and pretentiousness.

None of these are like SLACs, but UVA may be a bit more like an SLAC than the others. The others are bigger research universities than UVA, but that doesn't make UVA worse as an undergraduate school.

Maybe a bit more attention is paid to undergrads by UVA than by Berkeley or UCLA, but it certainly isn't anything like an LAC in that regard.

OP seems to think this is VAUM.

+1. This is the time of year when the rejections hit and those who didn't get in or their disappointed parents need to vent.

Why would a hater restart a UVA jealousy thread?

Human nature is a wild thing, why do we say "Fu#k when we stub a toe? Sometimes a hater needs their reptilian brain massaged with negativity to feel good.

Nobody outside of VA has even heard of or even remotely cares about UVA.

To deny the jealousy by de-legitimizing UVA as a good school or one that area residents wish to attend.

I’m sorry but they is ridiculous.

This comment is untrue on it’s face. Saying that no one has heard of the University of Virginia is like saying no one has heard of the state of Virginia. This type of post is a sign of a troll at work. Essentially, they don’t even care to mask the stupidity of their remark. The goal is to incite people. Sounds like Trump.

Very good question OP. Same thing with Target... so many people jealous that they can’t afford to shop there. I don’t get it.

Almost everyone has heard of University of ___________ (insert state).

IKR. “There’s a University of Kentucky? I didn’t know Kentucky had a university!”

You've got to understand that both of the following can be true: UVA may be an unattainable target for many people so they may write from a point of jealousy; Some UVA supporters on this site inject it into many threads that are not about it and disparage other schools (often without fact) and this is a source of ire.
