How so? |
"Holistic" is euphemism for taking race as one of many factors. The problem is under the 1964 Civil Rights Act, educational institutions that receive any federal money are obligated to treat individuals equally, regardless of race or other immutable characteristics. Harvard can be like Hillsdale College. Simply decline federal aid, federal research grants, and do what it wants. |
Financial aid, outreach, regional admissions officers, targeted programs for first-gen students, partnering with groups like Questbridge. Both students you described would be considered as adding significant diversity to their class at Harvard. And, yes, while threads like this obscure it, admissions officers know that “Asian” students are a diverse group and are seeking out applicants from underrepresented subgroups. |
Previous supreme court cases may have allowed race as a factor; however, none has ruled in the context of the 1964 Civil Rights Act which prohibits educational institutions that receive federal money from considering such irrelevant factors. Harvard may do so; however, it shouldnt receive federal aid or grants. |
modeling and professional sports. Not very many Asian Americans represented in lucrative professional sports. Female models make more than male ones, and apparently, you can get a work visa to model in the US and then eventually become FLOTUS. |
Harvard has no business robbing from Peter in forms of aid and research grants to pay Paul (URM.) |
| It’s becoming easier to game the system and get all the perks. One of my son’s AA friend got into Princeton as a first generation college student. I was baffled as his parents are both working lawyers who have an upper middle class lifestyle. Well it turned out that the young man was supposedly “fostered” by a relative with no university education. |
What about Senator Elizabeth Warren who claims she's Native American? The Pocahontas's factor is more pervasive than people think. https://mobile.twitter.com/vijayingam/status/893961062344663041?lang=en |
you personally saw an admission letter saying "Welcome Mr First Generation"? You think Princeton sends out acceptances to "our new Native American student" Troll much? |
Why not just have Harvard take its huge endowment and spend it on whatever they wish, any way they wish? When it starts taking tax payers money, it has to justify itself, answer lawsuits, especially when there are allegations improper conduct. |
Good luck with that. |
Foreign students- there an endless supply and they are often full pay. |
Sounds like 22% is way too high...maybe it should be like 6%? |
I'm sure you would support harvard being 2% jewish then? |
For the millionth time, Judaism is not a race, and religion is not factored in college admissions at most selective colleges. |
