As a homeowner in Ashburn who is getting screwed by the proposed tax reform she supports, it's pretty much this. I don't want to pay more in taxes, have less services, so people who are wealthy and big corporations can get tax cuts and sit on even more money.

No, thanks.

This. Our taxes will be going up substantially. She can hit the road

But you keep saying tax the rich. You are the rich.

Loudon is one of the top five richest counties in the country. If you are not the rich then who is?

I don't believe this. The tax will most likely go down for an average household in her district. The middle class in fairfax/loudoun counties are very well paid in the national scale and will benefit from the tax cut.

You can lie all you want but people aren't dumb. Yes, people in Ashburn will pay more in taxes.

What's worst is that the tax plan is going to tank the Ashburn area housing market. It's barely recovered from the bust in 2008. I know so, so many people in my HOA who voted for her who are incredibly pissed and will not vote for her again.

The tax rates will decrease across the board. SALT deduction will be gone but it doesnt matter as the standard deduction will be doubled. The child tax credit eligibility and amount will expand. So why would people in Ashburn pay more taxes?

I get that you don't like Comstock. And the housing price may go down or may not. But people in Ashburn paying more tax is just not an accurate statement.

SALT Deducation will be gone.

Ashburn has expensive housing, and the mortgage interest deduction cap hurts

It doesn’t matter if the standard deducation is doubled if you itemize

The House bill phases out the child tax credit if you have a high income

So yeah— People is Ashburn are paying more taxes. The only think that saves me is the AMT going away

And housing prices taking a hit isn’t some throwaway. People notice if their house loses $100,000 in value.

Barbara Constock screwed us. I have no idea why. Because this helps her business?

First, Ashburn houses are not that expensive.

Second, if the standard deduction is high enough you don't need to itemize. I dont think many people in Ashburn makes that much money to itemize under the new tax bill. If they do make that much money, they are in the high income bracket and should benefit greatly from the rate cut.

Third, it's more likely that the senate version will prevail wrt the child tax credit.

Fourth, Ashburn is just too far from the job centers and is not likely to appreciate regardless of the tax reform.

Ask your CPA if he/she thinks you will pay more tax. But you believe what you want to believe.

Dude. Most people claiming SALT itemize a lot more than $24,000. And the personal exemptions would be gone too.

Dude, the personal exemptions are peanuts. Compare that to the child tax credit increase. If you itemize more than $24,000, your income is most likely high enough to get bigger benefit from the rate cut. Even Nyt shows most people will get the tax cut. I havent seen any analysis to support your claim that people in ashburn would pay more tax.

Are you not from the DC area? Loudoun County has the highest median income in the whole country. Its a county full of dual income, 100-300k households. Not millionaires, but comfortably upper middle class. They take deductions and get hit by the AMT (which was left in the tax code). Virginians pay local/property taxes, state taxes, high car taxes--all itemized deductions.

Fine. If it's such high income county, it will definitely get the tax benefit thanks to the rate cut. I am still waiting to see an analysis supporting your baseless claim that people in Ashburn will pay more taxes. Virginia's tax rate is still a lot lower compared to some of blue states like NY or CA.

Even the Realtors are against this. I don't think a lot of their positions are good public policy but they are smart and know what benefits them... homeowners in NoVa will be hurt by this bill. I think that most of Comstock's constituents will be hurt by this bill, especially when the rates phase out in 10 years. Meanwhile they just handed over $1.5 trillion to big companies that could have gone towards educating their kids, building infrastructure, or even just directly lowering taxes on middle-income people.
