Ben is an alcoholic. Knowing what I know about addicts he was probably attracted to her because she enabled/tolerated his alcoholism and Jen did not. Ben and his ugly mistress deserve each other.

Uh, Jen certainly did tolerate his alcoholism. Can't say if she enabled it, as we aren't privy to the reality of their marriage, but she tolerated his alcoholism, gambling, and cheating for years. The divorce only happened because he refused to quit his mistress after four years.

I seriously doubt that anyone with means who is moderately sane or grounded would allow an untreated alcoholic around his or her children.

I don't get his appeal actually except as a doofus you might want to talk to at a party. Jennifer Garner seemed to worship him, looked up to his intellect apparently. I don't see that but then again we don't really know them and are just speculating.

Not a Jen Garner fan, but the more I hear anything related to Ben Affleck in the past five years, the more I just loathe the guy. This includes his own interviews he's done (so not just gossip). I think he is a selfish, shallow, empty person with major impulse control and I think he's no where close to getting his alcohol addiction, gambling, and cheating issues under control.

I totally agree with you. But how could Matt Damon be friends with him? That's the part I do not get. Matt Damon seems so normal and grounded. Maybe Ben has changed over the years but used to be normal? (?)

I disagree, the last few years Matt has come across as very condescending and smug. Ben is wysiwyg and actually seems the more down to earth of the two.

He cleans up well when he wants to. This is him at a premiere last year. Not bad for a guy in his mid 40s.
