Possible Rape at Sidwell?

If the "victim" was in an underage relationship with the "perpetrator", yes, it's highly inappropriate and it's clear that neither student is really a fit for the school. The best thing is for the school to make a clean break. Good riddance to them.

Those halls would be pretty empty if the school got rid of all the sexually active kids. This is 2016, not 1816.

Looks like Sidwell has joined the thread and is desperate to stop any side talk.
Well, the upside, Sidwell: Contracts went out to new families! This won't impact your numbers!
private schools care about one thing: $$$$$$$$$$ and reputation.
So there will be Push back from Sidwell.

62% of high school seniors have engaged in sexual intercourse. http://www.advocatesforyouth.org/publications/publications-a-z/413-adolescent-sexual-behavior-i-demographics

I know in 1816 they would already be married by 13.

Not to mention that the Secret Service (SS is for Germans) has had its own issues with sexual misconduct.

I missed where Secret Service agents were raping folks. Please direct me.

They were busy drinking and whoring....don't look to them on this issue.

Have you been raped? I didn't realize rape victims run straight to tell. Give me a break!

It allegedly occurred on a campus in broad daylight during school hours, with hundreds of teachers, administrators and students at school and (as others have pointed out) with law enforcement officers also stationed at the school. And the report is made to police at night nearly 12 hours later? Not saying it didn't happen, but it's weird that the first report was nearly 12 hours later and then to police.

No, it's not weird at all for a scared kid who has just been raped who probably is in shock and feels a range of emotional overwhelm to wait a few hours to report it. I am sure that this is also true with adults and not every rape is reported the minute it ends as you seem to imply it needs to be or it didn't happen.

What you are implying is that somehow the girl must he wrong or lying. She has to be because according to you, she didn't do things in the exact time frame in the exact way that you dictate what should have been done ignoring completely that she is a person who has emotions and her own thoughts and feelings.

This. Not to mention if it were my dd I would have here at the hospital at some point as well

I'm a Sidwell parent. If a rape occurred, I hope it's fully publicized and I hope the rapist is convicted. I think rape continues to occur more often precisely because people are afraid to talk about it openly. Based on my past discussions with people at the school, I suspect the school feels the same way.

The problem here is that everyone is just gossiping and making up facts. I also am disgusted by the giddiness and glee some posters get at the expense of a teenage rape victim. I find that disgusting.

This means that 38% have not. And the 62% also includes many who try it once and realize they made a mistake. I actually think this number is encouraging. No, far from ALL hs kids are having sex, despite what many would want us to believe

I agree. You should report those posts to Jeff, he will delete them.

I think we need to start remembering if there is a rape, a suicide, a drug overdose, a drunk driving accident.... we just need to realize that we are all part of the same community (whether it is Sidwell/Landon/Richard Montgomery/Wootton). Whether my kids go to your school or not. My kids play sports with your kids, my kids are on social media with your kids, my kids run into your kids at parties, etc.

We should stop the us vs. them mentality.

You gotta love parents who think sexually active teens are not the norm- whether it's 2016, 1016, it has been the norm for thousands of years. Yes, your pre-teen is going to turn into a sexually active kid before he or she graduates from high school. Sexual activity in high school is age appropriate behavior. Rape is not. Personally, I wish kids would not have intercourse during adolescence but it's absolutely unavoidable for a very large percentage of kids at every high school in the world.

You seem to be relishing the fact that a young girl has been traumatized. What kind of person turns this horror into an admissions issue? You need psychological help.

+1 Thank you for pointing it out.

Interestingly, Sidwell is currently searching for a Director of Communications, and the old one seems to have been rather suddenly disappeared from the school's website. That all happened before this story, but it made me wonder what had happened to bring about her displacement. Now this happens - definitely a bad time not to have a Communications person.

the Obamas. Incredible damage to this school.

Exactly what did the school do, or not do, that this should be 'incredible damage?'

It is horrible for the victim and her family, friends and alleged assailant, but what was the school itself supposed to do differently that, according to you, it hasn't done?

Every school has something that happens every year, these are young adults, where one allegedly made a horrible mistake. If it were your daughter, or son, or friend of your child, I highly doubt you would be too thrilled with aimless speculation.

I am also a Sidwell parent, and I fully agree with PP. This is not about sexually active teens; it's about rape. I'm thankful the victim came forward, and I'm thankful the school is cooperating fully and not trying to cover anything up. There are so many similar crimes that go unreported.
