My DH is a former prosecutor, and, no, connections won't help.

If anything, given the profile of the school and its students, an ambitious prosecutor will have every incentive to bring charges if there is clear evidence of a crime. (Ditto for media attention, given the interest to date in this story.) Of course, there may be no such evidence and the facts may turn out to be otherwise than as alleged.

unless you have loads of money and access to lawyers and can squash stories, manipulate facts and scare people with threats of lawsuits.

True, they play favorites based on donations

As does every private school. Sometimes they put up with 1-2 rich kids to help out a bunch of really smart middle class kids.

Very true, for good and bad. Previous PP should stop drinking Sidwell's kool-aid.

The endowment is very large at Sidwell School. It is always who you
are when discipline and favorites are taken into account. I know this
first hand as a former Sidwell parent.

Bad troll job. It's not "Sidwell School" and the endowment is not very large.

The real Sidwell parents stand up. Please sit down since you have no fight here.

Everyone should keep in mind that two futures are at stake: A young woman who perhaps was raped, and a young man who perhaps raped her.
Let this play out in court...if it makes it that far.
Two families' lives have been destroyed by this already.
This is really, truly sad.

Finally. A sensible, thoughful comment.

The media are licking their chops.

Media can't afford to buy chops

??????

In every crime, there's a victim and a criminal.

Plus their families, of course.

How is this different?

*These* kids presumably had "bright" futures. Fu*k that.

What's different is that not every crime is being openly discussed on an anonymous message board as if everyone reading and writing is entitled to the facts of an ongoing investigation. Let the wheels of justice play out.

BS. My best friend is a current Federal DC Prosecutor and connections and money absolutely will play a factor, as it does with anything in this country. Make no mistake the DC US Attorney's Office is VERY political. Depending on what side of the political fence either family is on (especially if they donated any money to campaign) will absolutely play a factor. To think otherwise is foolish.

" destroyed" , really ?

I'd say a bad few months or even a bad year or maybe 2 years, but " destroyed " .

Quite frankly you people need a reality check . Have you ever lost a child, as in, dead child and still had to get out of bed eventually ?

any of you people ?

Get a grip

I have lost a child -- as in dead. That doesn't mean that this situation might not destroy lives. Some people never recover from being raped. If the boy did it and goes to jail, having a felony record can be a destroying event. I would want either one of my daughters to die OR get raped. Not sure why you think it's ok to bring up one devestating example as a way to minimize something horrible that may have happened to someone else.
