For me, any place where the beach is like the only (or one of the few) thing to do ie OBX, some of the Caribbean islands..

+1. Just mentioning a place is pointless. (Alaska is amazing, BTW).

The mention of OBX gives me nausea. Boring, boring, boring. There are much more beautiful beaches all along the east coast. Can't stand the idea of anyone trying to force OBX down my throat. YUCK. Keep it.

They went to industrial areas and stayed in nice hotels.

She also said those areas did not have birds because the polution has killed off the bugs and tye ecosystem is dying from the bottom up.

So, until China fixes its polution issue and starts csring at least a tiny bit about the world, no China for me.

A friend of mine saw a dead body in the water in China. No one flinched. No one tried to recover it. Nothing. No thanks.

Hilarious. Just got back from Japan. Felt incredibly safe. What a rich, beautiful culture.

You visit the Great Lakes.

Prefer salt water to fresh water.

There are places I have less of a desire to go to than other places, but if given a chance, I think almost any place in the world would be interesting for at least a few days. But I can see not wanting to go somewhere for fear of safety or the length of time to get there. However, if someone offered me a free trip to almost anywhere, I can't imagine thinking I'd hate it so much that I wouldn't go (other than the two reasons above).

I had to go to Omaha, NE once. It certainly wasn't "up there" on my places to visit list, but it ended up being quite a nice small city with a few interesting sites. Ditto Iowa. I've also been to China. Yes, the air and water pollution is nasty, but it's a very interesting country with some amazing sights.
