It can't work in DC because all you have to do is cross the river and you can buy any kind of weapon you want in Virgina. And yes, I know this for a fact. My husband is a gun nut. I mean, my husband loves his assortment of guns. He also knows someone who bought a damn bazooka gun at one of those gun fairs. No background checks required. Now what does one do with a bazooka gun

Funny how almost none of this gun crime happens in Virginia, though. But we won't talk about that...carry on.

Furthermore, if just one of the individuals in that church was carrying a concealed weapon, there might not have been 9 fatalities.

He has a criminal record. Seems more likely he could have been radicalized by a white prison gang while incarcerated.

I believe the excuse was that his parents pushed him too hard. Seriously.

Actually, the Virginia Tech Shooter had a history of mental illness and was treated by one of Virginia's county clinics. His parents sent him off to college and hoped for the best, but he went off his meds and the rest is history.

Not PP, but how is saying he's crazy an excuse? There is no excuse. But to perpetrate something like this, you must have issues. You just have to. Doesn't mean you are incapable of planning and executing the plan.

Thanks - I am the one to whom pp was responding. I don't understand when people say calling someone crazy is excusing their actions. That is dumb as hell. Crazy or sane, if you are dangerous you need to be locked up somewhere. How is that excusing anything? This right here is how and why we have broken mental health system in this country, we think identifying and understanding mental illness is excusing it. Stupid.

They arrested a white about the same age who was wearing a grey shirt last night; he was carrying a digital SLR and had close cropped hair.

But he was white. And young.

That's profiling, and an innocent man was arrested. But I can understand why. I'd be mad if it were me - but I'd understand it and get over it.

If he sat in the church for an hour, he may have left DNA and or fingerprints. They had a picture of the car's license plate, and there was an insignia on the suspect's shirt. All climes. I have no idea how they identified him, but they are releasing his information as their prime suspect. I guess it wasn't a wig after all. Weird.

Sorry if I am not making it all about race for you. As I said, the person is likely mentally ill and his delusions centered around either someone in the church or black people. His comments about race, that he told one of the victims, sound very paranoid. And for the record, mental illness effects all races.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if this guy was found to be out of his gourd - but with regard to the point I made earlier white guy who kills someone (sociopathic anomaly)...non-white person who kills someone (typical black thug or common Hispanic gang-banger) is the whole perception issue. Crazy comes in every race, religion, gender, sexuality, and tax bracket but there is a definite double standard when it comes to how crazy white is perceived and how crazy non-white is perceived. Crazy white people get handled with kid gloves and every extra precaution is taken to make sure authorities know that they are mentally ill and that no harm comes to them. That is not an excuse -- dude sounds crazy, VA tech dude was crazy. Just because institutionalized racism exists and paints alleged black criminals as typical of all black people does not make any of these other nuts any less crazy. The two things are not mutually exclusive. I am a black woman who very clearly sees racism and crazy ALL AT THE SAME DAMN TIME.
