It sounds like the pastor that was shot and killed was an incredible man. Was also in the state Senate, I believe.
It sounds like he exemplified Christianity - very giving, very kind, wanting to help others.
Such a senseless loss.
I am sure the others who were shot and killed were also great people - Pastor Pinckney is the only name that has been released at this point.

One more reason to ban guns. Weapons + nutcases= mass casualties. How many times does this have to happen?. Sandy hook, aurora , now Charleston. I can't believe he sat with them for 1 hr through prayers and then killed them!

I think we are all saddened and sickened by the continued and escalating violence in this nation (and world). If you have close ties to this community, I'm sure this latest incident is hitting you in a much more personal way. However, it is no way senseless talking points for people to talk about the broader issue of addressing gun violence that results in these kinds of horrific tragedies. What is senseless is a society that allows this to happen time and again. We have to talk about and more importantly we have to do something. No one deserves to die like this and no family, community, or friend, deserves to lose a loved one like this. WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT IT -- WE MUST STAND UP AND DO SOMETHING. Our tears mean nothing if we do not work to prevent future grief. Are "they" doing that now? Why not? Because guns are SO much easier.

If guns were the same as pressure cookers, pipe bombs, and poisoning food, then they'd be interchangeable and "they" would be using them. But you and I both know those things are in vastly different leagues, and guns are so, so much easier.

Not saying he should merely making note of the contrast between the media's perception/depiction of a white guy who kills someone (sociopathic anomaly) and a non-white person who kills someone (typical black thug or common Hispanic gang-banger). When non-whites commit atrocities it's a reflection on ALL of them whereas when whites that commit atrocities its not portrayed as such.
