A gun at a bible study would be disrespectful, IMO.

That worked really well in DC. Get a grip.

It can't work in DC because all you have to do is cross the river and you can buy any kind of weapon you want in Virgina. And yes, I know this for a fact. My husband is a gun nut. I mean, my husband loves his assortment of guns. He also knows someone who bought a damn bazooka gun at one of those gun fairs. No background checks required. Now what does one do with a bazooka gun

Funny how almost none of this gun crime happens in Virginia, though. But we won't talk about that...carry on.

The closest urban city in Virginia that is comparable to DC is Richmond. And yes, it is happening in Richmond. Other than Richmond, Virginia has a lot or rural, suburbs, and exurbs areas.

I see, so gun sales in Virginia are responsible for urban gun violence? Hmmm. OK. End gun sales in Virginia and gun crime will stop in Baltimore, Richmond, and DC? You've got it all figured out.

right!

Supposedly this is the terrorist. They need to address him as such!

I think we are all saddened and sickened by the continued and escalating violence in this nation (and world). If you have close ties to this community, I'm sure this latest incident is hitting you in a much more personal way. However, it is no way senseless talking points for people to talk about the broader issue of addressing gun violence that results in these kinds of horrific tragedies. What is senseless is a society that allows this to happen time and again. We have to talk about and more importantly we have to do something. No one deserves to die like this and no family, community, or friend, deserves to lose a loved one like this. WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT IT -- WE MUST STAND UP AND DO SOMETHING. Our tears mean nothing if we do not work to prevent future grief. The best thing that can come out this, the highest honor to those taken too soon, is to make sure this does not happen again, and again, and again.

I see your point. What can you (or anyone for that matter) do? We must stand up and do a lot of things, none of which will ever get done. Sorry for raining on your parade, but it's a sad day for many.

Your post is quite confusing, how in the world are you raining on my parade? No kidding that it is a sad day for many, who said it was not?

I doubt it was a functioning normal person who was just committing a hate crime.

And the excuses and rationalizing begins. White mass killer equals mental illness. Hispanic mass killer equals cartel gang member. Black mass killer equals thug. Asian mass killer equals ?, I don't know, what were the excuses for the Virginia Tech shooter. SMH

Ok -- I'm still good with 1 less person getting struck down by a gun.
What the freak is your point, that people will kill people anyway so let them have any and all kinds of weapons? Not smart, my friend. Rather foolish actually.

By your logic, we should also ban cars.

If people were DELIBERATELY using cars as weapons of violence, then yes.
Your lack of logic is astounding.

Sometimes they do, including cops. Hey, can we please stop this? There won't be a ban on guns in this country in the foreseeable future, so focus your attention on achieving compromise. Stricter controls, personal responsibility for owners, I don't know what else.

--not a shooter, but have guns and ammo in the house

I did not say ban guns -- I SAID STRICTER GUN CONTROL, MAKE IT HARDER TO GUNS AND AMMO. You or the pp above is the one who said "ban guns...you get bombers'

Good point, the deaths would have just multiplied with the cross fire.

Multiplied? He shot nine people out of 12 in cold blood. There was only one of him. Were there imaginary people with him helping?

Statistically, gun murders (not including suicides) are way down over the past decade, despite the economic decline.

Pressure cooker bombings, however, have statistically skyrocketed over the same time.

An unarmed black man in South Carolina can get killed for having a busted taillight but I got $5 says they bring this dude in without a scratch.

I'm so tired of all of this police bashing. Give it a rest.

Yes - this is a horrific and disgusting crime and this suspect deserves to spend his life in prison, if not worse. Suspects are sometimes injured by police when they are considered to be a physical threat to the police or refuse to obey a lawful order. Look at Wint (the DC mansion murder suspect) - he's a black man that was apprehended without a scratch - he did not resist arrest and followed the officers' instructions, as it should be. If an officer lacks probable cause for an arrest, that can be sorted out later. There's due process for that.

Are there some racist and bad police officers? Of course. But the majority are just good people trying to do their job in dangerous and life-threatening circumstances. I'd love to see you give it a try.

Hmmm...you know the majority of police officers? And a lot of people would dispute what you consider to be a lawful order.

Hell yea I would call the cops if I needed one, but that is not mutually exclusive of knowing that sometimes bad people become police officers. Being a cop does not magically make you a good person. DA FUG!

As I said, if an officer lacks probable cause (i.e., the order or arrest is not lawful), there's due process to sort that out later. How hard is it to be cooperative and respectful? It seems like common sense to me that you shouldn't scream at an officer, get in his/her face, or threaten them physically or verbally. I doubt that you know the majority of police officers either. But I bet you'd be quick to call the police if you were in any danger.

No, I don't have it all figured out, but it's a start. Also, Maryland has liberal, not as liberal as VA, gun sales as well. But, you keep giving guns to people without any thought. Who knows, maybe you will be sitting in worship service, or a loved one in school on a day when one of these free wheeling shooters enter blazing.

The sad thing is people like you who refuse to apply critical thinking to overcome their liberal viewpoint. Signed - a person with a higher IQ than you who agrees with PP.

I believe the excuse was that his parents pushed him too hard. Seriously.

I never said that. I said white killer who said what he said to a targeted black church group could possibly be an ex con who was part of a white supremacist prison gang like the so called "aryan brotherhood." That is not a rationalization; it just goes to motive.

Or maybe he's crazy.

But it is not. It is prudent if you are legally allowed to carry to bring a gun to church, because it is a place targeted for shootings.
