Md : The laws state that the food must be sold at “a location in a farmer’s market or at a public festival or event where raw agricultural products are sold”.
Guessing this situation doesn't quite cut it. |
| Includes cupcakes. No frostings or fillings that require refrigeration. Usually buttercreams (especially meringue buttercreams) are borderline... check with your health/ag dept. |

So Betty Baker is "running a business" selling baked goods from her home illegally. She doesn't mention this to Sally Stupid when she offers to make cake pop's for little Sammy Stupid's birthday party.
Betty Baker shows up with the goods, without having received payment, and doesn't bring an invoice of any kind. In retrospect, Sally Stupid wonders if she should have paid for the goods. Now, let's think about this. Have you ever gone to Whole Foods and wondered if you should pay for the foods there? Have you ever been at the farmers market and questioned whether or not the goods were for sale? Have you ever been in any sort of business at all where things that had value were just given out as freebies (and I don't mean samples)? No. This never happens because legitimate businesses that are trying to make money don't give away their goods for free. Shady side businesses by "mompreneurs" who don't pay taxes or have proper licensing are about the only demographic where this weirdness comes into play. Sally Stupid: Make your own damn cake pops (shit ain't difficult), or hire someone reputable to make them for you. Or, I guess, make a friend who just really likes making free cake pops, if that person actually exists. Betty Baker: If you want to run a business, do it right. Get a license, some actual baking space that isn't your kitchen (Psst... http://unionkitchendc.com/), and take a few classes on how not to be a doormat when running your cake pop business of wonder. Damn there are some dumb bitches in this area. Seriously, ladies. Get a clue! |
I'd like to hear you weigh in on the thread with the person that needs help with the cake cutting on her dessert table/backdrop please. |
| Pay her. What a silly thread. Have you ever made and decorated cake pops? $1/pop is reasonable. |

Can yo uimagine the raft of shot Cake pop Mom would have gotten if she'd posted?
'What do you mean you never invoiced her? You never said you were a business?? What's wrong with you? Did you expect her to READ YOUR MIND? Do you even want to make money?" Lesson: when posting one of these "who was right, them or me" threads, post as the other person and watch DCUM rush to your defense. |
| raft of SHIT. sorry |
This!!!! |
| I wouldn't pay anything. She should have made it clear upfront that she expected to be paid. If she is expecting to be paid then her business skills are horrible. She should have provided you with an invoice before just showing up. |
+1 At least, verbally. She should have said something, and OP was ridiculous for Facebook-stalking her and PayPal-ing her out of the blue. |

???? What's your problem? So aggressive without a reason. |
| When she offered would have been the time to discuss cost, design etc. |
| I wouldn't pay her. I would sue her for the loss of IQ points I suffered from reading some of these fence posts. |
