Of course. Usually though, the mom should be black, but it depends on the chapter.

I'm the mom, and black. I've never heard of it. We had debutantes back in Augusta where I grew up. I'm gonna ask DH how he feels about it. I'm not sure I'd want to single DD out towards either race.

Mocha Moms and Jack and Jill are totally different types of organizations. I belonged to Mocha Moms when I was SAH and did not live in the DMV.

I understand that. We are too poor to join J&J and even if we weren't, I'm pretty dark and the foundation of which this organization was built on bugs me enough to where I would never seek them out, even if we were affluent.

Mocha Moms seems like it might be a good fit for me. I'm a SAHM in a new area and feeling kind of lonely without an established base. This might be a good way for me to make some friends and complain about how hard it is to be a homemaker while lounging in yoga pants at Starbucks. (Kidding!)

1) uh most everybody I know in J&J is darker completed
2) you do realize that colorism( legacy of slavery, exploitation and colonialism) is not just confined to the history of J&J?
3) Do you vote, because black folk of all hues use-ta couldn't do that either

So what? I don't like much of anything the organization stands for, their horrible paper bag testing beginnings is just one.

Comparing voting to joining an organization for the affluent? Okay ...

It's a mom's organization so men are already marginalized. Honestly, having been in 2 chapters and in a chapter with an interracial couple (mom black and dad white) - it was really just not a big deal.

How can you be black and never heard of Jack & Jill? Are you from another country?

I'm not at all a fan of Jack & Jill. I wish it would die already.

NP
I grew up in a mid sized city in Ohio and never heard of it until I read about in in "Our kind of people" by Lawrence O. Graham. That's when I learned about the upper class black community.

Are you black? Seriously?
You had no idea that there were affluent black people in this country?
For real? You thought the Cosby Show was a fantasy ?
Please say you are kidding

Not PP but are you kidding? I grew up in DC and attended private schools so I was very aware of J&J, but have met plenty of Black people ( including middle class Black peoole) from other cities who were not. I don't know why you seem to be having such a hard time with this.

If Whites are excluded, that's segregation.

Oh please what ur really mad about is the realization that blacks have had their own organizations for Decades and you weren't invited. You thought we were sitting hand playing with our thumbs. BTW list me the names of black families at any of those elite country clubs in "Liberal" MOCO county?
