What new forums do you want?

You might be right and we can always change things in the future.

Can we please have a "The first year' forum? So much easier to have all those breastfeeding questions/ debate about diapers in one place...

We tried a dad's forum. It was eventually renamed "Sex and Relationship Issues (explicit)". No joke. The mere presence of the forum upset some women who found it insulting for reasons I could never understand. More women posted in it than men and a good number of the posts were simply complaints about the forum. So, I don't think I'm going to try that again.

Here is the current list I am considering. It is two more than I'd like, but we'll see how it goes. I plan to create a new category and separate the discussion forums in to Parenting Discussion and Non-Parenting Discussion (categories are simply the thick blue lines that separate groups of forums). Organizationally that might make it more clear that DCUM is not solely for parents.

Create new TTC forum, rename current forum to Infertility Support and Discussion
Jobs and Careers
Personal Finances
Separate Restaurants and Cooking. Change Cooking to Cooking and Entertaining
Sports
Pets

I'm confused. There will be a forum called cooking and entertaining? So I will have to go through cooking and tv shows all in the same place? I don't see the similarities.

TV shows have nothing to do with the new forum. It's "entertaining" not "entertainment". In other words, things like hosting a party, serving cocktails, etc.

I would never think of cooking and entertaining as anything other than cooking and hosting. But, given that others find it confusing, it could be called "cooking and hosting?" Entertaining is a broad category---such that some unknowing person night go there trying to find a pole dancer, juggler, magician, etc.

I like this title much better than cooking and entertaining. I will say, I am the person who found it confusing but I am sure I can not be the only one.... or am I....

PP, it makes sense to call it something other than entertaining. I actually also wonder what will happen with "food" or where food would go? How about food, cooking and hosting?

Whatever you do, don't call it "Personal Finances." That just doesn't sound right.

Either call it Personal Finance or better yet just Money. That way we can talk about our own money and broader money topics outside of personal finance.

Anonymous wrote:A miscarriage/stillbirth/infant loss forum. I feel that the topic is too sensitive to post in either TTC or Expectant Parents (a lot of people get scared by such loss when TTC or expecting) yet there are a lot of us out there who have had these losses and it would be a good place for support.

+1. Having recently experienced a miscarriage, I am really looking for support and DCUM would be a great avenue - but the current board doesn't seem the right place for it.

What happened to separating cooking from restaurants?

Also, I love the Personal Finance idea too. It's early Thanksgiving

Just as I was about to split the current forum, I had one more conversation about it with Maria. We decided that a standalone restaurant forum wouldn't be worthwhile.

How about leaving TTC out of the 'recent topics' page? Much like you leave the job search out of the recent topics forum? I find that the subject lines use jargon that looks like a lot of gobblety gook anyway.

Media - TV, movies, books. No more RHO_ on the off topic thread.

I haven't totally overused the new boards, so maybe this is already covered.

Not that I don't appreciate the idea but whatnwill happen isnthe sub-formsmor smaller forms will get less traffic bc now it will take more time and effort - even if that effort is 5 seconds- less traffic/less discussion plus more effort will lead posters to just out there post in off topic or some other generic form.

Have been on several message boards over the years and if a simple format works gets lots of traffic as is - dont change it. The change is a kiss of death and the traffic dies down.

I would rather the search feature be enhanced or the option to add keywords to posts or subject lines.

This. I've found myself shifting to consuming more from recent topics anyway.

Agree. The only forum I typically visit is recent topics.
