What new forums do you want?

A miscarriage/stillbirth/infant loss forum. I feel that the topic is too sensitive to post in either TTC or Expectant Parents (a lot of people get scared by such loss when TTC or expecting) yet there are a lot of us out there who have had these losses and it would be a good place for support.

I think a lot of women who are TTC are too intimidated by all the talk of infertility to post anything. I know that I certainly was. And I've seen women who are struggling jump on TTC posts with negative comments about their experiences which is not really the response that someone new to TTC wants or needs to hear.

What about putting the TTC (non infertility) in with expectant mothers forum if there aren't enough TTC posts to really stand alone. (And still having a separate infertility forum). Those who are pregnant can give great advice to those trying to get pregnant and there won't be the pain for those with infertility as they have their own forum.

makes sense to me

I don't want to see TTC questions in the Expectant Mothers forum.

Heck no, too specific. That is what the GP forum is for.

Create new TTC forum, rename current forum to Infertility
Jobs and Careers
Personal Finances
Separate Restaurants and Cooking
Homeschooling

Here is your chance to convince me to change my mind.

Personal Finance and Jobs/Careers for sure. Would hate for Homeschooling to take the place of something else as I really can't imagine much traffic. It seems like such a small set of visitors.

I'd prefer Gossip (Doh! Shallow me!), Social etiquette, or even a forum dedicated to birthday party planning. There are sooooo many threads about birthdays and party planning.

Glad you are not entertaining the idea of breaking out the GP forum into all kinds of minute aspects or ages of parenting.

Yes! Still hoping for social etiquette or at least cooking & entertaining.

I've been on here everyday for years, but homeschooling seems like a real waste of space. Many families have pets, though! It is a very passionate topic--parenting definitely enters into it when you have a new baby and you already have pet. Or your pet becomes elderly and your family is not reacting positively. Pet threads almost always become very heated and I've gotten great info about food, pet sitters, training aids, etc., from those threads. We love our pet almost as much as our kids. Almost. Gosh, just please no homeschooling--that will just be empty.

We tried a dad's forum. It was eventually renamed "Sex and Relationship Issues (explicit)". No joke. The mere presence of the forum upset some women who found it insulting for reasons I could never understand. More women posted in it than men and a good number of the posts were simply complaints about the forum. So, I don't think I'm going to try that again.

Here is the current list I am considering. It is two more than I'd like, but we'll see how it goes. I plan to create a new category and separate the discussion forums in to Parenting Discussion and Non-Parenting Discussion (categories are simply the thick blue lines that separate groups of forums). Organizationally that might make it more clear that DCUM is not solely for parents.

Create new TTC forum, rename current forum to Infertility Support and Discussion
Jobs and Careers
Personal Finances
Separate Restaurants and Cooking. Change Cooking to Cooking and Entertaining
Sports
Pets

I'm confused. There will be a forum called cooking and entertaining? So I will have to go through cooking and tv shows all in the same place? I don't see the similarities.

I don't think sports or pets will get that many posts unless you are trying to bring in new posters. I think a gossip/celebrity/tv forum would get more hits than either of those with the current posters.

TV shows have nothing to do with the new forum. It's "entertaining" not "entertainment". In other words, things like hosting a party, serving cocktails, etc.
