Who Scams You More for Money - Dentists or Veterinarians?

Dentists. The whole 'production bonus' that hygienists and staff get in some offices for signing people up for procedures is ridiculous and contrary to patient wellbeing. I finally found a dentist I sort of trust but it took a huge amount of time and trying more than one dentist, and even in this office that I sort of trust, the push for yearly xrays is absurd.

Why are you picking on them?

My list.

1. Lawyers (I am one)
2. Mortgage brokers.
3. Car salesman
4. Bankers
5. Home repair

We've been pretty lucky with lawyers and vets, although we no longer have a pet. Lawyers have always been family-referred and we've never needed one for a serious legal case (fingers crossed). I agree with this list though. Re: dentists, I've had a couple bad experiences, but nothing like what's been described here. Mine has tried to upsell a few minor things over the years like special toothpaste or an enhanced mouth guard for sports beyond the one my insurance would cover and I've just shrugged it off. They've never come after me.

I am surprised no one has mentioned chiropractors yet. Of all the scammy professions that push unnecessary treatments, this is probably #1. Some of my friends pay a year in advance for alignments (what the hell??), back adjustments that supposedly cure their kids' allergies, all kinds of bullshit. There was a chiropractic "doctor" in Herndon who tried to sell my friend steroids, and I'm not talking about Prednisone. Some of them also treat pets.

I don't want to sound like an 'anti-dentite', but hands down Dentist are more likely to screw you and sell you stuff you don't need.

Dentists. Biggest scammers ever. The good ones should be revered.

I've had dentists tell me I had over 1/2 dozen cavities (at one check-up) that needed to be filled. Second opinion at a dental school (with no monetary incentive) said I had none (the latter was correct as those teeth have never been filled).

I've had dentists simply lack compassion. When nervous or anxious, laugh at me, blow off my concerns, etc.

I've had dentists flat out fuck up their work. And then try to dodge making it right. When I called on, was told to "fuck off." We filed a complaint against that one.

I've never had any major issues with a vet other than the ones that try to push new vaccines or go with the worst case scenarious for possible diagnoses and then working backwards. I've learned to just say no, ask questions, and demand conservative treatment before working our way up to lymphoma and other drastic diagnoses.

Lawyers, for sure. I've actually complained about the number of people who get CC'd on my divorce case and charge me for their time, when only 2-3 max actually do anything on it.

Neither. Correct answer is orthodontists.

I don't have any problem with my vet or my dentist because I did my research before choosing them. There are plenty of reviews online- be proactive instead of being a whiner.

Old post but still a winner.
