This thread is pretty odd -- of all the professions that have screwed me, dentists (don't have a pet) are not even in the top 5. Why are you picking on them? My list. 1. Lawyers (I am one) 2. Mortgage brokers. 3. Car salesman 4. Bankers 5. Home repair
We've been pretty lucky with lawyers and vets, although we no longer have a pet. Lawyers have always been family-referred and we've never needed one for a serious legal case (fingers crossed). I agree with this list though. Re: dentists, I've had a couple bad experiences, but nothing like what's been described here. Mine has tried to upsell a few minor things over the years like special toothpaste or an enhanced mouth guard for sports beyond the one my insurance would cover and I've just shrugged it off. They've never come after me. I am surprised no one has mentioned chiropractors yet. Of all the scammy professions that push unnecessary treatments, this is probably #1. Some of my friends pay a year in advance for alignments (what the hell??), back adjustments that supposedly cure their kids' allergies, all kinds of bullshit. There was a chiropractic "doctor" in Herndon who tried to sell my friend steroids, and I'm not talking about Prednisone. Some of them also treat pets.
