It’s that time of year- let’s debate comfortable but not too hideous sandals!

Me again. I have these in black and love them

What planet am I on? I am going to beat my head into a wall.
They have that weird old-person shape, weird grey lining, devoid of any style.

I’d put them in the top half of shoes posted on this thread. But there are better black strappy sandals. The soles don’t match the top.

These are better:

The top ones don’t have any back strap—they are basically flip flops and terrible for your ankles and arches.
I feel like these threads are divided in two — the people who have plantar fasciitis or similar foot issues and those that don’t. For those of us in the former group, none of these sandals that you say are not ugly would work. And those of you in the latter category, if you want 5 miles a day in those sandals without arch support, you probably will end up with PF or something similar eventually.

I have vionics that don’t seem available anymore but are similar to this — I can only wear sandals that have adjustable straps, really.

I have plantar fasciitis and I wear these.

Oh, I like those. I have had good luck with Taps before.

I am sort of curious of the age of people criticizing the comfortable sandals. My sense is that millenials are more judgement al about this stuff. Gen X does not now GAF (did we ever?), and Gen Z tends to be very sensible and non judgmental about shoes — they will mot look askance at a granny sandal if it is functional and works for you. I have told my daughters that if their generation’s contribution to feminism is to normalize comfortable footwear for women, that will be a job well done.

For me, Birkenstock Gizeh Flowers works for every situation except a serious hike or formal dinner.

These!

What's the verdict on these Birks?

regular gizeh are better - the flowers are too busy

+1. Regular gizeh all the way. If you're wearing them, you can pass yourself off as a reasonably stylish person who wants to be comfy. The flower version are too busy and give the vibe that you think Birks might be cute. They aren't, but if you're wearing the plain Gizeh, it's like you're "in" on it. I don't know how else to explain it.

No. No you don't.

I'm not the OP, but I am in fact 60. Sorry if that offends you.

It doesn't "offend" anyone that you are 60. It's the quintessentially old lady fashion choices that are offending people, not you old ladies yourselves.

These are my “best” comfy sandals that aren’t TOO ugly that I wear for European vacations / cobblestone streets. Agree that a white sneaker or simple flat sandal are best, but it’s been too hot for sneakers, and too much walking (even to dinner) for a flat sandal so this is where I’ve landed. Curious if everyone thinks they are terrible?!

IMO, this is one of the most reasonable suggestions I have seen for sandals on DCUM so far.

Yes ... if you are tooling around Leisure World.

Op specifically said no foot issue so she doesn’t want the ugly orthopedic shoes.

These would not work on my feet because they are shaped weird, but if you have nice normal feet, these might work. https://baredfootwear.com/us/products/sanderlings-nutshell-rubber-rubber-sandals

You just made all that up. No one under 25 is liking or wearing these sandals.
