Savannah Guthrie’s mom is missing, suspect kidnapping

Police are again searching the area around her home- both on foot and by helicopter. I get the sense they have not 100% ruled out her wandering off on foot (despite what they said at the press conference). Also: even though she was of sound mind, at her age, things can change quickly (and sudden medical episodes can cause mental changes).

Also to the people implying Savannah Guthrie shouldn’t have allowed her mom to live there, that’s where Savannah is from. It is her mother’s home and she has other family and friends in the area. It’s not like Savannah is the only family and abandoned her.

I meant she may be cognitively sound, but if she can't walk well and needs assistance to be mobile, then perhaps live-in help or assisted living facility is appropriate. We sometimes have to make difficult decisions regarding elderly parent care.

My mom lives in Tucson and certainly can’t walk 50 yards unassisted. She has a walker for longer walks like that. My siblings live within a mile or two. She also has an Apple Watch that alerts us if she falls and an Apple home thing she can use to alert us if she falls or needs help. She definitely doesn’t want to move. She comes to visit out here but not in the winter. You’re ridiculous to suggest someone needs to go into a home just because they can’t walk half a football field unassisted!

We used to have someone come in a couple times a eeek when my dad was alive but even then the lady ended up just sitting around with nothing really to do, irritating my mom.
It sounds like savannahs mom was totally capable of taking care of herself but maybe didn’t drive anymore and couldn’t walk a half football field. That doesn’t mean she needs round the clock care!

I work in home health care and I think you are full of poopy.

There are MANY elders in their 70s, 80s and 90s who live on their own and do very well with just occasional assistance.

In fact, I've been there. My two sisters and I we very close with our parents. We didn't need to force them to do anything. We discussed reasonably as a family. They lived independently into their 80s. FWIW, your last sentence speaks volumes about your personality.

+1 LEOs, FBI, K9s, family members, and drones haven't been able to locate an 84 year old woman who can't walk 50 yds without assistance, uses a cane and needs life-saving meds every 24 hours. .

I don't think there was blood, but the article makes it sound like it's not just the medicine. It specifically says that there is evidence of a crime. Her being missing without her medicine and nothing more would not constitute evidence of a crime. I bet they found a broken window/forced entry point or something along those lines.

I feel like (even if temporary or due to medical episodes or medication) disorientation or confusion can’t ever be 100% ruled out at her age. I also think that sometimes people’s bodies can do things that don’t otherwise seem possible- meaning she could have gotten further than 50 yards.

It seems they have extensively searched the area. I really hope they have gone door to door and made contact with all homeowners. This area has more elderly than most- and a higher percentage of homes that might be temporarily unoccupied (or are owned by retirees who are off traveling). Most of the homes have a pool and some have outbuildings like sheds or even small pool casitas. If she was somehow able to wander further than expected, she could very well be on someone’s property (god forbid, drowned in someone’s pool or spa and the homeowner is out of town). Just my thoughts.

She also has a dog. Breed not mentioned- just described as “not a guard dog”. Probably a small lap dog. Maybe she took it out at night to pee, it ran off and she made an attempt to chase. Would somewhat explain the door left open (and the dog returning into the home later but no Nancy). Though, again, you wouldn’t think she’d have gotten far. But who knows?
