How about summary execution of you violate someone's constitutional rights while achieving your bonus? |
I am cool with 10k payout to us citizens reporting illegals |
If agents just detain people for whom they have a judicial warrant (meaning there is some evidence they should be detained, not just picking people up because they speak with an accent) that should significantly decrease the number of people who need a place in a local detention center. I am very concerned about these privately run detainment centers. I believe there is MASSIVE grift going on. The administration is paying these privately owned detainment centers money each day for the bodies they send to meet their performance quotas. And people are being kept there for a long time, to keep capacity (and thus billing) at its maximum. People are upset about Somalian run daycare centers and federal funding fraud? Please look at the massive grift that is happening with these detainment centers. |
I appreciate that you agreed with me on most of my points. It indicates to me that you do not have an entirely closed mind. I encourage you to recognize that people are not protesting the detainment of children because "it makes us feel sad". That really misses the point. As the judge made clear in his ruling, Liam’s detention was wrong in fundamental ways. It was unconstitutional. It involved an illegal seizure without a valid warrant and a denial of habeas corpus. It was also a human rights violation. Arbitrarily detaining a child and inflicting trauma is never acceptable. And it was morally indefensible, driven by enforcement quotas and an abuse of power rather than justice or public safety. The judge also pointed out that this detainment wasn't just "sad". It reflected authoritarian practices the U.S. was founded to reject. The judge explicitly invoked the Declaration of Independence. He drew parallels between this conduct and the abuses committed by a tyrannical government such as swarms of officers harassing people and armed agents acting without civilian oversight. He also pointed out that we now have standing enforcement forces, operating in peacetime without consent of the citizens. These actions of unchecked state power are exactly the behaviors American colonists rebelled against in the Revolutionary War. https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/26708008-us-district-judge-fred-bierys-opinion-ordering-release-of-5-year-old-liam-arias-and-father So no, PP, we are not protesting because "we feel sad" although for sure the sad boy and his adormable bunny hat created a great deal of sympathy. So much so, I want to buy each one of my immigrant ESOL students a bunny hat to wear from now on, just in case they get caught up in a raid and need people to protest. You shouldn't need to be cute to gain empathy but I will take moral outrage wherever I can get it. |
Did you see that comedian who created a fake website to report illegal immigrants? He has a recording of the NASTIEST woman who called in to report all her Uber drivers because they didn't seem to speak English. And another one reporting Publix employees for not speaking English. And another one reporting her neighbor for looking suspicious. And brown. You remind me of them. https://www.reddit.com/r/EyesOnIce/comments/1qijpii/a_fake_website_to_report_suspected_undocumented https://www.reddit.com/r/HumorInPoorTaste/comments/1qqper4/ben_palmer_man_his_content_is_hilarious_and_even |

"Some very kind pilots on the @delta flight from San Antonio - Minneapolis today. 5 year old, Liam Conejo Ramos was in Heaven. What a difference 24 hours make. From DHS detention in Texas - to this. Being a kid again. And now, Liam is home again."

If I came here illegally via southern border crossing undetected, how would ICE know about me to obtain a warrant? If I'm in the car with someone who ICE is after, then I could be detained as well. |
If no one knows about you? That means you aren’t terribly scary or harmful. Deport the actual bad guys. Require documentation of legal status for all federal aid, sure. Investigate anyone applying for federal aid to see if their documentation is up to date and correct. You can even investigate employers to be sure they are correctly screening their employees for permission to work. But stop coming down heavily on random people just to see what you find. |
Honest question. In a country with so many different races and ethnicities, how will you know when someone is an "illegal." How can you tell? |
It's mainly about the brown people. |
Some employers are using e-verify and not catching people because they are using stolen IDs. If I am in the car in the above scenario then I should be detained if necessary. Send a clear message that illegal immigration will not be tolerated. What is so difficult about that? Also, know that schools receive federal funding for things such as school lunches. Are you in favor of verifying status to enroll? |
