Are people okay with losing friends over politics

Just saying these people I don't typically count as my friends. Let me diagram it.

A is friends with B. B is an immigrant. B doesn't give C the time of day. B probably also doesn't care much about A, unless they are rich. B probably also doesn't care for A.

Just bringing this, up because of in terms of friendship liberals are bringing in large swaths of people that really aren't our friends. Yes, these are our neighbors and our co-workers school mates. Well unless of course you live over in the economically segregated good school areas.

I mean if friendship is important then you have to take that into consideration.

Well Melania and Usha are definitely not my friends! Can we deport them?

I forgot Elon and Thiel aren’t my friends either. You’re right, there’s an awful lot of immigrants who hate America.

Yep.

Haven’t read the entire thread so don’t know how many +1’s this has but +1 1000%.

I’m not going to end friendships over politics. If somebody chooses to end one with me, then that’s unfortunate but I’ll accept it.

I have found it increasingly difficult to talk to friends on either extreme— conservative and progressive alike. People seem so quick to judge and insult, and I find myself exiting those conversations because I don’t need extra anger in my life. Things are tough enough. But no, I’m not going to end friendships. As I said, things are tough enough.

My wife’s brother and his wife are big MAGA people and we hadn’t seen either of them and their kids since 2016. Our niece (their daughter) recently got married and has a toddler. We saw the SIL briefly just this past summer when my MIL (totally not MAGA) had been in the hospital. Other than that, we have no desire to visit them. Why subject ourselves to that?

AMEN!

I have decided I am also going to remove people who support medicalized youth gender transition. The evidence of harm to the most vulnerable children is simply too great, and just like the horrific family separations, I can’t be friends with people who advocate for hurting children.

I agree with everything you wrote.

What on earth are you talking about? You are so deep in Fox News nonsense your brain has ceased functioning. Why are you so obsessed with immigrants?

What in the world would make you think it is as simple as immigration. Believe me, Trump done so much more damage than the deportation of immigrants, legal and illegal. And if immigration is the only thing you see scary, demoralizing, unethical, illegal, immoral, and more, that speaks volumes about you PP. It ain't good.

I don't prioritize immigrants over fellow Americans but I do prioritize decency and humanity over racism and hatred and xenophobia. Christ taught us to look after refugees and outcasts and to heal the sick and feed the poor. I prioritize people who share my values over those who clearly don't (most of MAGA).

Makes sense to be fair. I think its because more conservatives are into American fast food and believe that McDonalds is top-priority food..

Seems like a weird thing to fixate on even though I agree with you that I don't think children should undergo gender transition or be medicalized with puberty blockers.

I'm pretty liberal and most of my friends and social media contacts on Facebook and other platforms are liberal, and many are LGBTQ, and I personally have some friends and family members and professional contacts who've transitioned, and *none* of them are going around touting "rah rah let's force gender changes on kids" and "oh the medical world has it perfect and boys can become girls" yadda yadda. It's not something that people in my lefty LGBTQ friendly world even talk about on any kind of regular basis.

You seem to be living in a very weird space if that's what you're supposedly seeing constantly going on in your world to the point where you're having constant family falling outs and a social media block fest over it. If anything I could believe you are blocking random people out of the millions on Twitter who might have something to say about it, but who don't even know you exist, let alone be part of your friends and family circle.

Either that or you are so obsessed with it that you are the one constantly trying to have that discussion with friends and family, only leading them to get pissed off at you or troll you or just ignore you. If you're the regular trans-obsessed DCUM poster I think you are, I'd probably want to shut you out just to not want to hear from you constantly obsessing over it even though I agree with you.

I have paid all my taxes, I've obeyed the law, my immigration status is LEGAL, and yet there are people like me who have been detained for weeks or months, mistreated and deported. Some of them have been released after their ordeal, with nary an apology.

You also voted for the abrupt cancellation of USAID, the stoppage of which has already killed HIV-infected infants in South Africa. Millions more vulnerable people across the world are predicted to die until 2030 if aid is not reinstated. This was American soft power and diplomacy, OP - the world order was American because the USA was the great helper of the world. Helping people not die will get you loyalty and peace on your terms. You are ceding that power to China, a repressive state that punishes dissidents systematically, and who wishes to remake the world in its image. Are you OK with that? Your quality of life and those of your children and grandchildren will decrease dramatically once the US has been supplanted as the arbiter on the world stage.

Americans who were in NIH-funded clinical trials have also been severely impacted, and their trials halted while treatment was ongoing. Some of them will die. Trump is waging a war against the federal government, and part of the government is composed of researchers who discover cures for cancer, Alzheimer's, heart disease, diabetes, etc.

I am talking about deaths; severe injury; or severe change in life circumstances for non-violent foreigners with valid immigration status who are detained or deported.

The burden of shame and blame borne by Trump voters is ENORMOUS.

And yet I still talk to one old man who voted for Trump... the more I talk to him, the more I persuade him that his support was misplaced.

I hope you see the error of your ways. You have hurt so many innocent people in the world.

At least 50 of the Venezuelans sent to CECOT prison in El Salvador were 100%, in every imaginable way, certifiably LEGAL! They entered LEGALLY. They had no criminal record in any country. They were doing everything they were told to do. They were detained for the asenine reason that they had tattoos and then deported as a gimmick that absolutely backfired at the cost of $6 million of our tax payer dollars and the suffering of completely innocent men and their families.

The reverse ferreting and scrambling backwards from liberals is quite a sight.
