It is true that Democrats are more likely to ditch family and friends. Severals studies/polls bear that out....

Dreier Roundtable (June 2021): This study found that Democrats were twice as likely as Republicans to report ending a friendship over politics (20% vs. 10%). Liberal women were the most likely group, with 33% reporting that they had ended a friendship because of a political disagreement.

Skeptic Research (May 2025): A report noted that approximately one in five people would end a friendship or relationship with a family member over politics. Gen Z and Millennials were the most likely to say they would sever ties, and liberals were more likely to do so than other political groups.

Yahoo News/YouGov Poll (September 2024): 28% of Americans found it stressful to spend time with friends or family who hold different political views. Democrats and Kamala Harris voters were more likely to report feeling stressed than Republicans and Donald Trump voters.

Reuters/Ipsos Poll (August 2025): A poll of nearly 4,500 U.S. adults found that 27% of Democrats felt the 2024 presidential election damaged their friendships, compared with 10% of Republicans.

Nineteen percent of registered voters said recent disagreements with family or friends over political issues have hurt their relationship, according to a new Siena College-The New York Times poll.
Independents and Democrats were more likely to say so — at 21 percent and 20 percent, respectively — compared to just 14 percent of Republicans.

I think it's because MAGA policies marginalize people, whereas Dem policies try to bring in the marginalized.

MAGA hate DEI, after all.

I think it’s because Dems are a lot less tolerant of differing ideas than they claim to be.

Translation: Liberals won’t quietly accept our racism and sexism and ignorance of science and economics and general bad behavior.

I don’t begrudge anyone that reluctantly voted for Trump because they didn’t like the direction Democrats have been going in recent years.

Progressives have done a lot that most people disagree with - open borders for illegal migrants, their unwillingness to put violent men in prison, destroying public schools with their permissiveness toward bullies and disruptive students, imposing racial preferences in hiring and promotions, their disdain for those who are religious, their extremism on trans issues, and their scorched earth cancel culture towards anyone that might raise an objection to progressive priorities.

I’m what I guess you’d call an Obama Democrat. Pretty common sense. And I think Democrats completely lost the plot in recent years. I still voted for Harris, but I totally understand those who used their vote to stop the bleak identity politics and dumbassery of Democrats in recent years.

However, I cannot abide anyone that is enthusiastically MAGA today. A lot of people voted against Democrats bc they hated what they were doing when they had power - not bc they liked Republicans. At that moment in time, many voters thought Democrats were the greater threat to the things they cared about.

Obviously today, Republicans are the bigger threat. And no doubt, their votes will change next time around.

But anyone that is enthusiastically for Trump today in late September has brain rot. And I cannot abide them.

It’d be awesome if we had at least one sane party that put forward a good presidential candidate that pursued good policies.

But here we are.

Go look at Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign ads on Youtube.

Which one?

Here's a pretty bland center-right ad about moving people off welfare, on a foundation of social programs (not kicking people off welfare)

It's a good example of policy differences (what are the mechanics of "good" welfare) and suspicion of what devil is in the details, vs the classic Republic "welfare queens!" and modern Republican / MAGA "They're eating the dogs!"

I don't understand how anyone could vote Republican after Jan 6. And then Trump pardoned the people that desecrated the Capital and beat on the police. I will never vote for a Republican and have no respect for anyone who voted Republican after Jan 6.

Nope. We’re tolerant of “differing ideas” sure. We’re intolerant of racism, misogyny, homophobia, insurrection, pedophilia, Christian nationalism, white supremacy, oligarchs, wacko anti-vaxers, etc.

Yeah, your actions don’t really back this up, chief.

Wrong. We are all for you living the life you want but you don’t get to impose your beliefs on everyone else. That’s not intolerance, it boundaries. Because everyone else’s beliefs matter too.

Don’t believe in gay marriage? Don’t marry someone of the same sex.

Don’t believe in abortion? Don’t get an abortion.

Want to be a racist prick and have a wildly successful podcast saying outrageous things? You are free to do that, and you can also be sued if your words and actions hurt someone. Because they have rights too.

Oh come on. Do not be so blind to the faults of your own side. Lets just pick one issue, misogyny: You people hate women. It always comes out eventually.

The Republicans hate women too, mind you. But you will never convince me that Democrats are against misogyny when it is so deeply ingrained in the party.

Look inwards before you claim any moral superiority, because you don’t have it.

The Democrats certainly haven’t come close to achieving perfection on women’s rights, but don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Democrats have fought for anti gender discrimination laws, anti pregnancy discrimination laws, equal pay, FMLA, the Violence Against Women Act, abortion access, and provisions in the ACA that require health insurance companies to cover birth control without copays. The Democrats are much more likely to have female representation. 73% of the women in Congress are Democrats. Between the two major parties, the Democrats were the first to have a female VP candidate on the ticket and the first and only to have females win the presidential party nomination. The Democrats do have moral superiority over Republicans on women’s rights.

You are so tiresome. I voted Clinton and then Harris. I still see the absolute vicious misogyny (and racism and homophobia etc) that permeates the Democrats.

Even Marjorie Taylor Greene is waking up to the misgogyny in the Republican party, folks. https://www.newsweek.com/marjorie-taylor-greene-republican-party-women-donald-trump-2108446

But C'MON, what is this argument about???

The issue is that vicious misogyny is the DEFAULT in our society!!!!! DUH!!!!! BOTH parties are chock a block full of misogynists, as they are chock a block in every walk of life.

For pity's sake, MOST WOMEN ARE MISOGYNISTS!!

The UN's survey in 2023 on the conditions for women across the globe found 9 of 10 humans are biased against women!!

Wake up! Stop infighting! Start realizing that they enemy is all around us!!!!!

Bill Clinton won by adopting the rhetoric of the right, but couched in less obvious language. White liberals effing loved it. And the Democrats have been chasing that vote ever since.

But the country is changing, and you soon will not be able to win elections with only the white racist vote. Hence the headfirst dive into fascism. Like clockwork, expect the Democratic establishment and the vast majority of white liberals to fall in line. We're 9 months into this and the party is acting like it's politics as usual, and white liberals are shrugging and going on with their lives as this administration begin systematically removing immigrants, people of color, and the LGBT+ community from daily life.

If you want to take away my rights, my livelihood, my freedoms, I don’t want to be friends with you. IDK why that has to be stated over and over again.

Uh, Trump won because so many POC voted for him. Do you understand the profound demographic changes that happened in the last election?

No. I understand that you have fallen for propaganda designed to make you believe that. The only groups of people who majority voted for Trump were white men and white women. As for other races, more of them did vote for Trump in 2024 than in 2016 or 2020, that's true. However they still represented the minority of those populations.

Despite the propaganda, 78% of Black men voted for Kamala. 56% of Latino men voted for Kamala. 54% of Asian men voted for Kamala.

White men voted for Trump at rate of 66%. White women did so at a rate of 55%. White people made of 72% of voters. To say that any particular race is responsible for the election of Donald Trump and not talk about White people is disingenuous. White people elected Donald Trump. If they had not, he would not have won. Plain and simple.

Says the woman who refused to vote for a woman—twice! LOL.

You are so tiresome. I voted Clinton and then Harris. I still see the absolute vicious misogyny (and racism and homophobia etc) that permeates the Democrats.

Your cult beliefs in the Democrats as perfect gods are what is causing this mess.

Did I say that? The pp pointed out that Dems were misogynistic and my response was to remind her that Hillary won the popular vote and millions voted for Harris. It's so tiresome that Dems constantly attack Dems. Why didn't you call her out? I've said on this forum that 25% of Dems are more misogynistic than average voters per a WaPo poll. See the Bernie bros and the Dems who refused to vote for either woman. However, like a pp said, 73% of women in Congress are Dems. What does that tell you?

Stop attacking people for a statement that tells you nothing about who they are. If you think Dems are a cult, you're not paying attention -- no matter who you voted for.
