How honest are you with self-checkout?

You should have gone back and paid for it you scum.

One time I went to the liquor store, bought a $100 worth of wine and the store clerk failed to do the last step so it never went on my card. When I noticed I went back told them what happened and paid for my stuff. It was their fault but I drank the wine and of course I should pay for it. That’s what people with integrity do.

Just stealing? Lots of illegal things are now totally acceptable.

Not really.....

Well, turns out he was right. Now that AI is coming for all of us, I see the light. Self-checkout was the warning shot, destroyed jobs, enriched corporations, and left us all with a MUCH worse human experience.

That’s like reseeding your cotton by hand because of Eli Whitney and his damn cotton gin. AI would have arrived with or without self check.

You are correct on the facts, but you are making my point.

Chesterton was right. Efficiency ain't all it's cracked up to be.

I do my best until I’m at my car. It has happened before that I realized I walked out with an unscanned item and I didn’t return it. It’s also happened that I realized later I was double charged and didn’t resolve that either.

Teacher's pet? Who are you hanging out with that makes you think being honest is a teacher's pet quality. I don't think I can even imagine someone I know not scanning everything.

You probably already know it, but that is stealing. You are supposed to raise your hand and call for assistance. Waiting for someone to help you is the risk you take for self scanning vs going to a regular checkout. If an item at the clothing store is missing a tag, do you consider it free? I would love to hear you defend yourself to loss prevention with “it didn’t scan so I just took it”.

I am very honest. I walked out by mistake one time with an item. After loading my car I took the item back. I've gotten home and gone back to the store. They just look at me like I'm crazy for returning it, but I don't care.

Is it really "honest" to unquestioningly acquiesce to an oppressive, extractive system?

I take more of a "cosmic justice" approach to matters like this.

All my organic peaches turn to cabbage.

What can I say, I’m not a professional.

Be honest. Are you scanning all the groceries/items? This includes being honest on the number of bags you are using.

Why would I not scan everything? It's not worth my self respect to skip items, so I don't. Once or twice over the years I've gotten home and found out I didn't get charged for something by the checkout person, and I didn't go back because I feared making trouble for the employee.

We had a wacko city council person get caught not scanning all the items she brought to the checkout. I don't know how they first noticed but it was less than $100 of stuff.

She was losing her mind at the time. She was kind of MAGA, she was an antimasker, she was having financial and business troubles as an independent lawyer during Covid times. I think it was gardening supplies she didn't pay for.

It made the local paper. She passed a few months later due to combo of issues related to poor judgement, diabetes, caught covid, etc.

To me it's just crazy to steal like that (in addition to being morally wrong). With cameras, weigh scales, store security, credit card records, etc.

Well we don’t live in Hicksville.

I am honest about whether my zucchini is organic or not. And which container it’s in. The videos I have seen say that loss prevention will wait until you have stolen a certain amount over many visits to be able to prosecute you for a bigger crime. So if you think you are getting away with stealing, they might be watching and taking notes.

If you are intent on stealing small items from the store, it would be easier just to buy them and then complain about the quality and get a refund.

Pay with cash. They have no idea who you are.

Pretty funny that you all think the cameras will catch you cheating the system but somehow it never fails to upcharge me or double scan expensive items.

It's not a level field and I will exploit it just like they try to exploit me.

This has nothing to do with integrity.

I am 100% honest, including bags. It’s not worth the risk to me. If I’m going to steal, I’m gonna go BIG!
