At what point are republicans at the national and local level going to be held accountable for their (in)actions? |
MAGAs didn't care about NOAA or the NWS until this weekend. |
DP. This article states that many flood warnings were sent out - by the National Weather Service, which is part of NOAA. And your last sentence? Shame on you. An initial flood watch — which generally urges residents to be weather-aware — was issued by the local National Weather Service office at 1:18 p.m. Thursday. It predicted between 5 to 7 inches (12.7 to 17.8 centimeters) of rain. Weather messaging from the office, including automated alerts delivered to mobile phones to people in threatened areas, grew increasingly ominous in the early morning hours of Friday, urging people to move to higher ground and evacuate flood-prone areas, said Jason Runyen, a meteorologist in the National Weather Service office. https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/texas-officials-face-scrutiny-over-response-to-catastrophic-and-deadly-flooding/ar-AA1I3MV7?ocid=BingNewsSerp |
It is evident at this point that the main finger pointing should be directed to county officials who completely dropped the ball on any of the warnings. It didn't help that key positions at the NWS stood vacant. |
Republicans take everything the government does for granted, and doesn't miss it until it's gone and too late. |
The bolded has nothing to do with this flood. All alerts were sent out and the NWS was fully staffed. The National Weather Service office in New Braunfels, which delivers forecasts for Austin, San Antonio and the surrounding areas, had extra staff on duty during the storms, Runyen said. Where the office would typically have two forecasters on duty during clear weather, they had up to five on staff. “There were extra people in here that night, and that’s typical in every weather service office — you staff up for an event and bring people in on overtime and hold people over,” Runyen said. |
There will probably just over 100 people who died from something that could have been prevented in terms of evacuations. And yet Trump golfed this weekend. |
This narrative you're trying to spin about NOAA/NWS is pure propaganda. There were no staffing issues and they sent out one alert after another. You people need to get a grip. At 4:03 a.m., the office issued an urgent warning that raised the potential of catastrophic damage and a severe threat to human life. Jonathan Porter, the chief meteorologist at AccuWeather, a private weather forecasting company that uses National Weather Service data, said it appeared evacuations and other proactive measures could have been undertaken to reduce the risk of fatalities. “People, businesses, and governments should take action based on Flash Flood Warnings that are issued, regardless of the rainfall amounts that have occurred or are forecast,” Porter said in a statement. |
It's no propaganda. Yes, NWS still did its job to the best of its ability but its an absolute fact that they and other agencies have lost significant staff, funding and other resources, which puts the nation at risk. |
Right? The fed who knows the area and whose job it is to coordinate with the local authorities took the fork and wasn’t replaced. Maybe because he got an email telling him to go find a “high value” private job. I don’t know - I am thinking the lives lost are pretty damn high value. |
While flood warnings were sent out, the old time staffers knew the people in the county to contact...that institutional knowledge was lost and as a result, communications that might have happened without Trump, didn't happen at all. |
This will all be whitewashed, just like Uvalde...it is what Texas does. |
This thread is about the warnings for the flood, jackass. Stop deflecting. POTUS is making everyone in this country less safe with his absolute idiocy. He is incompetent and foolish. |
It is going to be so difficult to make progress on protecting ourselves and our families from climate related disasters want a good chunk of the country just doesn't care and doesn't want to take any action. It will be so much more piecemail and ineffective then if we could work together as a country. It really sticks. |
There's a certain event out on social media claiming that the floods were a result of man-made precipitation. Why did Trump and Noem allow this activity? |
