Completely agree.

The entire cast was perfect, especially young Amy.

Then came old Amy breaking up the synergy.

This is how I felt about Amy in the why is her name escaping me and Timothee version. Florence Pugh!

Her voice was so deep, which is great for an actress in a variety of roles, but not to play the youngest sister who is quite young when the movie starts. And I feel like a deep voice is genetic or environmental, and it just doesn’t match the others. Sorry!!

Yes and no. Some movies are great but anyone could have been in some of the roles and it still would have been great.

I don’t think anyone is arguing that Kate winslet was perfectly cast in titanic even though the movie was a blockbuster that won a million awards. Leo, however , was perfectly cast as was Kate winslets fiancé.

Opposite for me. She was perfect and DiCaprio looked like a kid.

Agree. I never bought her with Leo.

It feels like this thread has morphed over the last few pages from the original question into every film I more or less enjoyed watching.

I strongly disagree! Jack Nicholson was horrible and almost ruined this movie. Gene Hackman would have been a much better Frank Costello.

Um, ok. It won 4 Oscars. Best picture, best director, best film editing and best screenplay writing. Nicholson, Wahlberg and DiCaprio were all nominated for Golden Globes. Nicholson was fantastic. I am sure Hackman would have been good too. Not sure what your beef is.

I agree that Nicholson was terrible. He hammed it up. Bad accent. Almost any other actor would have been better. Bruce Dern, Hackman, Robert Duvall, etc.

Sorry, but gotta disagree with Top Gun. All the guys were fine, but Kelly McGillis was too tall & too old for Cruise. She looked more like bis mother. She (and everyone else) was perfect in Witness, one of the few movies Harrison Ford didn’t sleepwalk through.

The Rock. Nicholas Cage is better as a nerd than a tough guy like in Con Air.

State of Grace. If you think Nicholson was good in The Departed, see this movie. Ed Harris will show you what a menacing Irish-American mob boss should act like. Overall, one of the best casts ever: Sean Penn, Harris, Gary Oldman. John C Reilly, Burgess Meredith, Robin Wright, John Turturro.

True Romance. Another large & perfect cast.
