Do better. |
Was it just a rumor or did Overlee have it in its bylaws that consideration would be made towards a family if a swimmer(s) placed in the top x for times/events. |
Sounds like other clubs do it too. Not sure what the issue is. Most private clubs have loopholes - country clubs do as well. You know the right people, you’re really good at swimming, golf, etc. Doesn’t sounds like Tuckahoe is doing something out of the ordinary if this is really what their Board has chosen to allow. |
You don’t have a personal interest but you want to take the time to post your opinion on an anonymous forum. And you choice was “good luck with that, you put all your eggs in one basket”. What does that say about you as a person? You have no personal interest and this doesn’t impact your life, but sarcasm about real people and what comes across as wishing ill on folks is okay in your book. Maybe you should use your real name on here so you can be proud of yourself and your opinion. Because I would be embarrassed if I were you. |
The bylaws are posted on the overlee website |
This was Chesterbrook by the way, not Tuckahoe. Nice try supporting your false argument. Neither Overlee nor Tuckahoe have ‘backdoors’ to membership for swim families. Chesterbrook ‘resets’ the waitlist every year for this exact purpose. Tuckahoe’s bylaws are also on their website FYI. |
No pool would ever put into writing the preference given to one family with fast swimmers over all the other families. Those are purely behind closed door deals.
Not that Tuckahoe is the only pool doing this, but Tuckahoe did it as far back as the 1990s with multiple champion girls, and that's all I specifically am aware of. |
LOL. Thank you NVSL historian. Likely not relevant now but thanks. |
So are you saying that you have specific knowledge of the Board at Tuckahoe violating their bylaws and membership process for fast swimmers? If that’s really the case don’t you think something dishonest like that should be reported with the names and facts? |
Just look up the results from all stars on the NVSL website. You’ll see swimmers that swam at one pool one year, then switched to T.
And no, I don’t know what happened in the boardroom because I wasn’t there. |
I dont have a dog in this fight, but you do understand how waitlists work, right? Perhaps we should have a new rule proposed at the seeding meeting to make swimmers sit out from competition while they are on the waitlist of other pools. |
No, please give me details on waitlists. It’s some sort of a list for waiting? Who is “we” that should start this rule? |
Do better? I’m pretty sure DCUM is a place where people are allowed to share their opinions on things. I question how it is a smart decision for Tuckahoe to go all in with one individual. Feel free to have a different view on this |
Maybe they were already on the waitlist and swam at another pool that had openings while they waited for full membership at Tuckahoe, Overlee, or whatever other pools have waitlists. If a family has a very good, talented swimmer maybe they want to swim at a D1 pool ultimately and get on the waitlist. I’m not sure how swimming one year at one pool and then at Tuckahoe would mean they skipped the line and got in just because they had an excellent swimmer. If you don’t know specifically about real examples of people doing this maybe you shouldn’t make assumptions or accusations. It doesn’t seem like the right thing to do. If you have real examples with specific names they should be brought up with the Board to make sure the playing field is level. |
You can have an opinion without being rude or wishing failure on people. I think that’s what they are saying. |
