“According to the most recent OMB guidance, the directive to pause federal funding will not apply to student financial aid, including federal student loans and Pell Grants. If you are a student, you should continue to register for and attend classes unimpeded.

The directive does require a pause on a subset of federally funded research activities implicated in an evolving set of executive orders or through stop work orders or other guidance issued by federal agencies. If you are a member of our research community, you should expect to receive additional direction later this afternoon if you have not already.”

Ugh, sorry for the garbled mess at the beginning!

Should read “FWIW, this is taken directly from…”

It was clearer than Trump’s memo. No worries.

+1 The WH is full of jokers who don’t know wtf they are doing. They’re about as prepared and professional as an all caps truth social post. Trump and his clown car of idiots.

Interesting you can come to such a conclusion in just a few days' time. I'm not a Trumper but know members of his legal team. iMHO they have done an amazing job since Nov lining up
these EOs. They are an impressive lot, both individually and working as a team.

LOL did you see the one where your crack team of geniuses invoked “Title 2” of the United States Constitution? Maybe if you are citing to the Constitution as the basis for illegally firing DOJ attorneys, you might want to properly cite to “Article” II. It’s like they haven’t ever laid eyes on the Constitution . . . oh wait.

LOL

Before any funding is distributed, there are steps that must be taken to ensure it is legal. To the various agencies will need to go through their steps to comply with making sure funding is not allowed to be used for x,y, or z, per the new requirements. So may be as simple as adding language in terms and conditions of award that says the grantee cannot use the funds for x, etc. Don’t be reactionary and fall into their efforts to create chaos. Lean into the requirements for funding.

Yes, and those people actually going through with making sure it's legal are afraid of being fired -- which may also be illegal, but the fear is real. If you don't think this is causing major, major issues and decimating industries you are in another world

It is, actually. Thankfully it has been blocked last evening.

You are blinded by relationships because these people are not doing an amazing job. Sloppily written EOs that cause chaos and immediately require clarification is the opposite of amazing work. What is likely happening is more attention is being paid to impressing the felon in chief than to the explicit directions in the EO or its legality. We’ve got the worst, most petulant, king ever and “doing an amazing job” isn’t a job requirement. Blind loyalty is.

+1 This has been an embarrassment to the country (and the legal community).
