Hate towards H1-B visa holders

And here is your President, weighing in on it (not).

Out of it, from day one. Write that, WSJ.

I’m really enjoying this discussion. We really need to have it as a society because the future is barreling towards us, whether we like it or not, particular AI.

Well, MAGAs....

If you don't agree with President Musk, you are a subtard.

Elon is apparently threatening to primary any Republican who opposes him on increasing immigration.

Lie down with dogs, get up with fleas.

And MAGAs are the dangerous, flailing death throes of the last dinosaurs.

Yep.

Americans don't want more immigrants, legal or illegal, if Americans can't get jobs that can actually help buy them housing and food.

We know what Elon and Vivek are up to now. No one ever volunteers to work for "free".

MAGA responses to Ramaswamy have been defending American culture and workers *including* some saying that black American workers should have access to American jobs before foreign workers. This is counter to the narrative that all MAGA are white nationalists.

If Trump voters continue down this path of protecting and favoring America first for Americans of all races, Democrats can kiss the blue collar workers goodbye for a long time. This is how Trump won hispanic men. This is why Bernie's message for the working class resonated with Trump voters and why some AOC voters split their vote for her and Trump.

The wildcard will be to see how Trump responds. If he sides with American workers on this issue this will be a movement. The argument is no longer illegal immigrants take the jobs Americans won't do (which was always BS drummed up by businesses), now they are talking about importing cheap labor to take your $100k + white collar job. They want to import indentured servants to suppress wages.

So you mean MAGA voters are now going to support the position other people have been telling them was in their interest all along? The one they voted against?

And somehow you think folks would be against this as opposed to saying I told you so.

Well no, not quite. Democrats opened the border and allowed millions of workers in who compete for jobs and suppress wages. All of the propaganda about illegal immigrants taking jobs Americans don't want, building America, etc. were talking points pushed by the wealthy that middle class people parroted for years. Working class people who actually had to compete with immigrants for work knew better. All the while democrats were gaslighting and calling you xenophobic if you pointed out what was right in front of you. The only reason people have a problem with it now is because they aren't just coming for janitorial, lawn maintenance and nanny jobs anymore. Now they're coming for jobs we've been told for years that Americans will do.

I think you (and the Democratic party) have fundamentally misunderstood that for some, voting for Trump has been about American workers. Yes there are portions of his voters that are white nationalists but there are many who actually believe in America first for Americans of all colors. Yes Trump is a billionaire and benefits from cheap labor but he was the only one to acknowledge foreign workers as a threat to American workers. So which do you pick as a voter? The guy who at least acknowledged the problem or the party who is actively allowing millions to flood in and then gaslight you when pointing out that they are taking jobs and overwhelming your schools*, hospitals and other services?

*Prominent democrats don't send their children to the public schools most voters have to use, so they are fine with flooding them with foreign kids with varying levels of formal education. American kids are absorbing the impact of these policies and people are tired of it.

And yet, the one they voted for and his team are the one actively turning against the very position folks supposedly voted for.

Trump tells people a lot of things but the real question is what does he stand for? Who is he really likely to support? Whose interest does he really care about and where is the proof? Over and over again people showed that Trump is a liar who only cares about himself. Who would change up whatever he was saying for his own interest. Whose own business dealings proved he cared nothing about American workers or small business. But yet…

*And do you believe prominent Republican politicians send their kids to the pubic schools most voters use?

Which party blew up an immigration deal? Which party continues to obstruct enhancement to healthcare and insurance systems? Which party is threatening civil service workers? Which party is hostile towards unions?

Did you listen to Trump's hate speeches about illegal immigrants taking jobs from US citizens on his campaign hate rallies? Hatred, racism, sexism are the foundation of MAGA.

How is a new STEM grad supposed to get one or more years of experience if nobody will hire them? An internship doesn't add up to a full year, my and there aren't enough STEM internships out there to give all STEM students out there the experience that industry claims to need.

This has been my 2022 grad DD path. Right after UMD she secured and intern position with a contractor at 60k May. She became permanent in September and got a bump to 86k. A year later her whole group was laid off, but she was able to secure at TS with Poly a couple months prior. She was off for may 3 weeks, with tons of interviews and landed a position at 120k. A year later she's gotten a raise and close to 125k. A lot of her peers she graduated with that year have been somewhat successful. However I've heard the following years graduates have been having a tougher time.

Key thing is to land an internship program that provides sound experience, not just busy work. Experience weighs more than starting salary.

Internships and jobs vary in the experience they provide. And Tech has laid off Thousands of workers in the last 1-2 years. Folks with years of experience. Ask them how it’s going finding a new job at their level or below.

Science jobs usually require a Master’s or PhD. Let’s talk about the education path towards that versus foreign born.

And while we’re at it, let’s look at the cost of college and graduate school and whether it’s affordable for most Americans. Particularly the schools that would have top tier programs and research facilities.

Or, the key thing was targeting jobs with TS, eliminating foreign competition.

Yes, TS is the ticket. Both mom and dad are also in the field with over 50 years of combined experience. However she's way more marketable than us as we only have PT lol.

And that's why I guided her to go for the position that provided the best experience. My company offered her a posiion upon graduateion at 50k, but it was all busy mundane work. Years later she would of been doing the same work for maybe same pay.

She mentioned recently that a lot of companies r looking to hire graduates from the boot camps that hit the floor running. Her scrum master didn't go the college route, is a female, early 30's and earning roughly 150k. No college debt. So there's many different paths.

Seems like a bait-and-switch. Trump never believed any of that crap, he hires foreign workers for Mar-A-Lago, his golf resorts and businesses, even his last two wives were foreigners, and now he has Elon and Vivek promoting more foreigners to take jobs from Americans.

MAGA's gotta figure itself out.

I went to school in West Africa and I came to study engineering physics..I went to a Top 10 public university. In HS I learned calculus 1,2,3 and physics I and II and chemistry I and II. And I wasn't even in a gifted or advanced program. I was in a standard scientific program. In the United States access to a similar program is reserved for the brightest kids. In my opinion this is problematic. And the solutions being proposed are even worse. For example California bizarrely waived pre-calc as a prereq to calculus at one of its community college.

The approach to STEM needs to be looked at further . But I stead of focusing on first principles we are teaching kids statistics and data science in middle/HS. This is also a bad approach because we are training kids to be ready for Corporate America instead of training them to solve hard theoretical problem.

Well if your point is that voters who want to limit immigration should have voted for Harris, then you missed the voters' message. Voting for Democrats would also give them more immigrants, including in that terrible bill pushed this year. I'm 100% certain Harris would have gone for amnesty had she won.

Of course prominent republicans don't send their kids to public schools. But they also don't open the border and allow a half a million kids to flood into public schools and then call you xenophobic if you complain. It's the hypocrisy of the Democrats message that is part of the problem.

Anyway, let's see if Bannon or Ramaswamy side will prevail .

I don’t disagree with Charlie at all, even if I despise his usual race baiting. And I’m a liberal urban Democrat in a $500K W2 household.

Someone from the D’s could absolutely clean up with disappointed Trump voters by promising to go hard after wealthy business owners who abuse the H1 B system and hire illegal immigrants. Go hard after Uber for letting undocumented workers abuse accounts. Promise to arrest Musk and any other tech CEO that lays off Americans and then tries to increase their H1 B.

There’s a huge opening here for a pro labor Democrat who has some alpha energy and is 30 years younger than Biden.
