Hey democrats, this is what you supported.

This is a Trump strike. First he killed the border bill. Now he's crippling our economy. Trump will hurt America if it helps himself.

The news this morning said they want they pay of $80K-$200K increased significantly?

Wait, some of them are earning $200,000? And they're complaining?

This is intentional.

The average dock worker earns $300,000/yr!!! I have an advanced degree and work in public service and I don’t earn that much! These are basically knuckleheads with no education who operate equipment, they’re overpaid as it is.

This is political interference. The DoJ needs to look into this immediately.

Boo Hoo. Hard physical work that provides the commodities and manufactured products necessary for civilization makes more money than your non-essential, sap sucking, parasitic, sloppy, slovenly “work” probably remotely performed in your PJs.

You do know that longshoremen don't unload ships by hand, right? There are... buttons they press.

I mean, it's hard work operating those cranes and repairing them, and so think they should be paid fairly and more than they are. However, they aren't lugging crates on their backs anymore.

It's really too bad the Teamsters don't endorse Democrats anymore, and are aligned more with anti union republicans. Not the way to get a pay increase and better working conditions, folks.

Right? Not sure what the strategy is here. So unions are threatening to deprive the entire Eastern seaboard of food and goods a few weeks before a national election, thereby effectively ensuring a Republican victory in November. Unions have somehow concluded that Trump and the GOP are their natural allies? Never mind that just yesterday Trump was rambling about how much he hates paying overtime. This is who unions have decided to champion.

Brilliant. If I'm a Democrat in office watching this, I would turn on unions so fast - just for the mendacity alone. Clearly, unions are run by morons. Absolutely no one in America is going to side with extremely well-paid longshoremen who are going to be costing this country $5 billion per day with their actions plus food shortages plus a massive inflationary spike. It's blackmail on all Americans. And it effectively becomes a national security crisis.

The Dems flooded the US with over 10 million illegal aliens who compete with union workers for construction jobs.

10 million isn't the right number and you clearly don't know who unions and union jobs work if you believe that. Also, even if what you typed is true, then why not hold the employers responsible for hiring undocumented workers?

Great idea. Now let's think back to third grade civics. Which branch of government is responsible for enforcing laws on the books? That would be the executive branch. Biden stopped holding employers responsible in 2021. So in review, this administration allowed millions to flood over our border and then stopped enforcement of the magnet that brings them here.

No, you don't get to claim this as if it is something new. I mean Trump literally employees undocumented migrants om his properties and did while he was president. You want those laws enforced? Pass the legislation that funds the enforcement. Trump told the GOP not to pass it, that is all you should need to know.

There are already laws on the books that are currently not being enforced!

I do get to claim the truth.
https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/12/politics/ice-workplace-raids/index.html

That article had a link to a story about the raids themselves. No mention of a single employer facing any kind of criminal or even regulatory adverse action--even though besides employing undocumented workers, the exploitation of said workers is extreme.

Yes, exactly. Now again, which branch is responsible for enforcing the laws on the books? Who is currently in the White House?

He is cackling with delight that shelves will be empty and after the pandemic inflation, the orange sun king will return.

Basically he wants the union to do Trump’s bidding and make Biden Harris look bad.

Have you looked at the Longshoremans’ demands? They don’t mention a single candidate. They are about wages and automation only.

Demands for increased wages are reasonable but people need to stop demanding limits on automation.

Automation will inevitably replace expensive workers.

Automation is coming for your job too. Humans having jobs is more important than maximum profit.

How much extra are you willing to pay for bananas?

The longshoreman are demanding a 70%+ raise and were offered a 50% raise. If those goes on more than a week public opinion is going to swing against them.

Their max pay is now $39 an hour now, a 70% raise is being instituted over 6 years at $5 an hour a year.

$39/hour for a max salary is chicken scratch for what those people have to endure. That’s around $75,000-$80,000 a year for back breaking work where you always the risk of having your skull, legs, or back caved in by a shipping container. Shame on you for thinking they’re being greedy in their demands.

This thread really brings to light how phony these supposed “Democrats” are on this board. These “Democrats” on here are mostly neoconservative Republicans who have libertarian social and cultural views. Not Democrats in my book at all.

I stand with the workers of America, not greedy corporations. You should too.

Longshoreman are no longer hoisting goods on with a block and tackle.

Why would anyone expect Biden to sell out the Union position before the deadline? Negotiations 101, folks.

The Union workers want 70% pay raises. This means more inflation people.

how dare those workers want raise? we need to import millions more low wage workers for the Urban Elites.

Contempt

One of the main things that I hear from my fellow tradesmen is how the elite and white-collar professional class don't care about or respect the blue collar working class. This disrespect comes out in many ways, big and small. But you can hear it a lot in the political rhetoric coming out of the progressive side these days. It was there in the COVID conversation, how work-from-home white collar folks pushed for endless lockdowns and vaccine mandates, to be imposed on the working class whose labor they relied on to stay home. It's there in the way they talk about a universal basic income instead of high-paying trade jobs, and in the way they push for low-wage green jobs instead of union energy jobs.

But you can really see it in how they talk about college. Take the latest issue that progressives are pushing the Biden administration on—student loan cancelation. They want us taxpayers to pay off the student loans of the college educated, who on average make more money than those without a degree, and for whom the economy recovered almost immediately post-COVID. Then they have the audacity to tell us that it will help blue collar workers. They want us to enthusiastically agree to pay off their student loan debt, and then have the nerve to tell us it's in our interest as Americans.

That's what I mean about disrespect. And it pervades the entire conversation about college in America today.

You frequently get contempt towards blue collar workers on DCUM threads. One person who appears to be wealthy and who owns multiple houses complains about the range of price quotes from General Contractors. This is in an active current thread.

Blue collar have the power in the end. They are the only truly “essential” workers with the only “essential” skillsets. They are armed, have hunting skills and man the police and armed forces.

The slightest level of organization and they could empty the bank accounts and assets of the parasite class and correct the allocation of resources.

A garbage man has a more difficult and valuable job to society than anybody in law or finance.

I mean, we already know Trump is not conservative. But as a conservative who is a strong supporter of right-to-work (no one should have to join a union to have a job, regardless of whether or not you support unions), I'd be so livid if he gets the chance to abandon that principal too and actually does.

Boooo hoooo. Cry harder. Sounds like a bunch of Trump gibberish.

Ports are national security facilities. Biden needs to fire every damn one of them who walked out, and replace them ALL with nonunion workers. Immigrants, preferably, just for the extra F-you factor.

These people are economic terrorists trying to destroy the economy before an election. They need to be locked in prison the rest of their life.

Not sure I'd say difficult. While I am not the kind of person you want with a CDL license, our garbageman drives a big truck down our street, pulls up next to trash cans, pushes some buttons, and the mechanical arm on his truck dumps our trash can into the truck and sets the can back down with the lid wide open every time (and in front of our driveway every time).

It was much more physically laborious and time consuming before the mechanized arm.

Fire them all, and replace them with African American workers. It’s time for someone else to get a turn at these 300k jobs.

Stronger together; diversity is our strength.

Replace them with immigrants. We need to give new Americans a boost.
