And the Democrats backing MAGA candidates in primaries in order to make it easier on their own candidates in the general are different because...? |
NewsNation is reporting on this story as it develops. I just saw Reuters offer similar coverage. |
Have you looked at the Longshoremans’ demands? They don’t mention a single candidate. They are about wages and automation only. |
If unions are going to actively conspire to ensure that Democrats lose elections... well, best of luck to them. Can't say I understand the big brain thinking behind sabotaging the only party that cares about unions. But if the longshoremen join the teamsters in advancing the GOP agenda, I think this marks the end of the line for the political relevance of unions. It's like turkeys advocating for thanksgiving. |
PP who initially mentioned this and yes, it's now being reported on. But it's been brewing for a while now. Certainly there were some really big news events in the past week, but it seems like this should have been bigger too. Though unlike the other PP I don't think this is politically motivated. I just think both right and left leaning new organizations no longer know how to report on something they can't jam into a preferred narrative easily. |
Why does the government need to get involved in a strike? Do you not believe in limited government? Either you do or you don’t |
The Democrats don’t actually want or expect those candidates to be elected, thus their intention is that there never be an opportunity for them to cause harm. That’s very different than hoping a strike and economic harm actually DOES occur. I’m sure you understand the difference. |
This. And no more overtime pay. Trump was quite clear about that. |
Unions have no business meddling in politics. This amounts to election interference, trying to destroy the economy a month before the election. They need to be in prison. |
Taft Hartley permits the President to intervene to bolster the negotiation. process and avoid a strike. When Biden responded to a question about the strikes in Yemen, absurdly responded he doesn’t believe in Taft Hartley. The abstract point about limited government is a cute argument, but our leaders need to be practical and resolve problems. Moreover the current administration is far from a believer in limited government. A strike will damage the economy and put pressure on inflation (not unusual as after the first round of inflation unions get assertive over wages to catch up on a reduced standard of living). The union’s demand is a 77 percent increase over 5 years - the ports are at 40 percent. But more troubling is the proposed ban on automation. It will make our ports non-competitive- depending on the extent global productivity gains obtain with automation, a likely prospect. Note the parties have not met since June (Biden indicated they were currently negotiating) so there very likely will be a strike. As to the substance, the populace likely has some sympathy for wage increases but not for the automation ban. I don’t think any reasonable person wants to see the economy and people suffer. |
Make Harris look bad? She does that on her own. |
State it correctly. They're all about hindering automation. For you democrats wanting to move forward, you sure fight it tooth and nail when it damages your narrative. |
+1. |
Seems like she doesn’t if R’s have to stand around hoping there’s a supply chain disaster to hurt her chances. |
This is about unions trying to sabotage the economy in order to throw the election to trump. That’s ALL this is.
The average dock worker earns $300,000/yr!!! I have an advanced degree and work in public service and I don’t earn that much! These are basically knuckleheads with no education who operate equipment, they’re overpaid as it is. This is political interference. The DoJ needs to look into this immediately. |
